well my check engine light came on for the first time since i have had the car and well i asked bboyrugged already and he has turned me to a good site that has the same how to that on this site but includes all the engine codes. so i tried to diagnose the car my self with the how to but when i turn the key to the on position the light does not blink at all its jiust stays lit and well i have the paper clip in the right place iam not sure what iam doing wrong any help is a greatly appreciated.

u cant do that check if ur car is 96+
its because its odb 2, not odb 1
all celi's b4 96 had odb 1 so it was possible to look for codes by doing the paperclip meathod
so yeah, i guess ur gona have to go get ur car scanned for codes at a mechanic or something...

with obd II autozone or advance autoparts will scan your codes for free
well i feel abit dumb but thanks guess i'll go to autozone tomorrow, hopefully i can get it done before i go back to school. Thanks alot guys

same here, i had my dakota scanned. guess it didnt like my gas cap so i had to replace it. no biggie. i asked the lady how much the scanner she had was and she said 99$ anyone else ever asked?

well i didnt have time to go to sdvance auto or autozone today but right now after work i get in start the ar and that engine light is on like it was before. i didnt notice it but when i parked in my drive way i looked up before i shutthe car off and the light magically came off. I dont know if the rain has anything to do with it ut its been raining since late last night regardless aim getting it checked but it did creep me out that its off now.
