loosen the distributor and rotate clockwise. its strongly recommended you use a timing light though, just so you don't advance so far you enduce ping.

hey doggy I havent had a chance to look but where is the distibutor location on st ?
look at the engine, it is on the right, where the plug wires are linked to.
There are 2 bolts under the distributor that u must loose.
After that rotate the distributor and tight the bolts and u're done! >

If you advance the timing do you have to use higher octane fuel?

depending on how far you advance. you should be okay up to 14 degrees. personally I would run high octane over 12 but mb thats just me, don't want to get ping ya know.

When you rotate your distributor, I believe you rotate to the right. I would definately use higher octane. After I advanced my timing, I ran regular and is ran like **** and my engine started to knock. After I put in higher octance, the car ran better.
don't u have to use higher octance gas if you advance the timing?
