WAR for the SuperStreet suspension - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #36613 14 posts Started by doGGy
Well - non stop hastle..... First of all - i was F'ing tired of searching for SSIII springs.... So i said - what ever..... i just took and bought GT-four springs witch has a bit stiffer spring ratio compared to a SSIII ones (front ones are exactly the same - rear ones has a stiffer ration cuz of the different weight of the car).

Installing a springs on SS suspension was a nightmare compared to a Mac stuff....

After install i found out what one of the joins on the 8 figure is dead and couses the clunking noise.... So this was the last drop for me.... Whats it - im converting to Macferson.... Basicly what i will do - will use the housings of the SStrut Struts cut the damn lower arm what is on the Strut and weld the Mac brackets on to just keep the same shocks and same springs... Now im a bit concerned about few thing - does Subframe where the main arms of superstrut and Mac mounts is the same on both models? and does the Hubs on AT200 and ST202 are the same??? Cuz im a bit woried about the axle having a different slicers and what it will not mount to AT200 hubs (witch are easy to locate here).

Well - your thoughts and sugestions are higly welcome - if you have some ideas - let me know.

Thanks,
Romas

Yeah SS is a real PITA to keep functioning if not well maintained. I dont know if the EU ST and GT hubs are the same. I do know that the struts are a Direct Fit for both. Since my old GT shocks and springs were fitted on a ST with no problems at all.
The only difference is the number of coils the springs have in the front, due to the heavier motor the GT comes equipped with.

I think the Subframe was different tho, but i guess the US ST versions are the same subframe wise so if you (or any other 6gc member) can post a picture of the underside of a ST i can compare it. Jacked the car up enough times now to see differences.

Edit:
Hubs are the same, only difference between GT and ST is brake assembly. Still dont know about the subframe.
BTW why dont go to complete McPherson because then you can upgrade the suspension in the future if you want and dont need another custom job to fit it.

would it not just be far easier to just replace the worn link.

Nope. With superstrut suspension prices i could replace WHOLE suspension to Mac for the same price as ONE damn link costs...

Dan, thanks for the pics smile.gif As for the rear - they are identical for sure. As for the front - i need a picture of FULL subframe from bottom how it looks - this would help me a lot cuz right now my SS is fully disasembled and i could check..

The subframe is identical to my GT. So compare it to your setup.
