i've been asked about my FMIC piping setup a few times already and thought i'd post this up

edit: this is for manny's request

these 2 pics are looking at it from the bottom...thats a 45 degree 2.5" silicone bend...oh and dont mind the super long worm-drive clamps...the 2.0 t-bolt clamps i ordered didnt fit on the turbo or the super thick 45 degree bend silicone kindasad.gif so had to reuse my old (yet very durable and reliable) IDEAL clamps

one request.
id like to see a few pics look down into the engine bay, at the way the hot pipe off the turbo is routed if ya could.

by the looks of it you might have more 90s which might cancel out the reclocking of the trubo.

since the trubo is on the pass side y not just have the hot pipes feed the intercooler from the drive side and then the passneger side of the FMIC feed the engine? This i think would make for a shorter route and with out as many of the bends.
out of the turbo i used a 45 degree 2" silicone bend and a 2.5" to 2" reducer and mated them together with a small section of pipe and put two clamps on it, this allowed me clearance from the turbo and room for both radiator fans.

no windshield whiper resevoir? :sadpanda:

then the piping will come too close to the heat shield...the way i have it now its not that close to the heat shield and doesnt really heat up...i could try to go at it from the left side of the alternator but that might need more bends and would probably look messy...i dunno maybe ill think more about this. thnx for ur suggestion

just like i told ya so...i tell no lie smile.gif glad it worked out! this is how mine is also but my 45degree bend is a 2.5 instead. and ya no windshield washer fluid...weight reduction! j/k my reservoir is just busted open but i bought a new one which i havent had the time to install yet

or he could have just routed the piping the other way around. ouf ot the turbo, make a right to the drivers side of the car.

then from the throttle body, shoot to the left passengers side. this way the downpipe, and radiator fans would not get in the way that much.


bboy, upgrade the clamps on your turbo. those hardware store jobs are just waiting to pop off.

yah i've been thinking that route but theres like no room (or atleast less room) on that side as oppose to the drivers side. yah the pipe coming out of the turbo does pass the DP pretty close but doesnt really bother me since its before the intercooler anyway.

yah i was replacing the clamps but the 2.0 tbolts i ordered didnt fit the turbo kindasad.gif everything else is tbolt except of the one on the turbo and the 2 on the 45 degree bend. gutta get bigger ones for those

Pretty much why I picked up a MKIII SupraT's stock intercooler. It looks like a longer version of the MR2T's IC and should work pretty good with a 5S's intake manifold. Plus it's made for a CT-26 so I know it will work for now. Eventually I will go for the big flashy IC but for right now I still want the sleeper look of a black IC - should look good behind the tC grill too. biggrin.gif
stupid question, but turbo's aren't my gig yet, just starting to get familiar with them. What is clocking a turbo? i'm assuming it is rotating it a bit so the pipes can enter from a different angle? please correct me if im wrong....
you are exactly right jcbass, in this case some of us clock our turbos to save intercooler piping and avoid having to run pipe over the hot manifold.

1994 celica GT.....3sgte in a month! all helpers are welcome!!! i live in Plattsburgh, NY.
relatively simple.. you just turn it and mount it.. but you need a new bracket most people just use some sheet metal from loews and drill holes in the correct spots
its kind of a pain in the ass. you have to make sure the bracket is done right, or yourll have some major issues. you also have to fight a very large c-clip to rotated the turbo housing. then once you do all that, you have to make sure the IC piping you hook up to your turbo dosnt get in the way of your radiator fans. some people have had to cut off part of the fans plastic support to make things work or buy low profile fans.

i agree with art.. its a pain in the ass, but simple, if that makes any sense.. its not hard to do you just gotta work out a few things first
