Been looking at new cars - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #36974 23 posts Started by Jeremy1210
Been looking for a 2001+ used car for my wife. Shes intersted in a sporty sedan or some covertible. Well She wanted an Eclipse and well they are crap. Then she wanted the MR2 spyder and it appears that their engines eat oil and freaking suck. Then the Nissan Altima, but they appear to be plagued with engine problems and some electrical stuff too. I looked up the Audi A4 and that seems to be a huge pain too....

I don't get it. Its like buying a new car is a crapshoot these days. I mean my 94 celica has had zero problems and I have 220xxx miles right now. Do automakers really not care to make a decent quality car anymore?

she doesn't want a Accord, civic, camry or corolla...so I don't know where to look mazda? Maxima? Volvo?
THis is such a headache...

dubs have major clutch problems...my dad has a 98 cabrio and had to replace the clutch twice already, only has 70k miles on it, and my dad has been driving standard for 52-16= that many years lol..aka 36 for people who dont want to do the math

Now SR powered
Damn wife is very picky. Shes looking at a 200-2001 Infiniti i30, Acura 3.2C/TL and A Nissan Maxima. THey seem to be the best choices shes made so far...

She doesn't want a miata, or any toyota (cept for land cruiser way too much gas eating and $$$)

Anyone heard anything bad about the 200-2003 Infiniti I30, Acura 3.2C/TL and Nissan Maxima?
Here is my advice dude, and sorry to say this, but go ask your balls back from your wife. She thinks she knows what she wants, but if she jumps from eclipse to MR2 to A4 it's pretty clear she has no specific utility in mind (meaning she could live with the MR2, easily one of the most impractical cars on the road, or jump at an expensive german sedan). Sounds like she's all over the board, so just get something YOU know is good and make her live with it.
Sporty sedan - IS300, WRX...
Verts - Pontiac G6, Solstice/Sky, Solara...

Yeah so I guess you've never been married. I don't want to have a ****ty rest of my life and force her to get a car she doesn't want.. I got balls, but I'm not an idiot and that would just be a lifelong headave to force someone to get something they don't want. I mean would you want a car you were forced to have? nope you'd whine like all hell too... so how about you go sit in a corner and let the grown ups talk
Plus I already tried it with the celica I forced her to get and she doens't like it at all. Yeah, its a headache looking at all these cars... if she was a car person it would be much easier

I didn't think of the IS300 or WRX. Thanks Super...

If you get the Acura 3.2CL, make sure its a manual. Acura had a huge problem with the automatic trannies in those cars. I believe only the 2003 comes in manual. I was looking at them for a bit.

In that price range, why not consider the RSX type S? (unless you have kids - but then you probably wouldn't want any two door)

I love the Type-S. If i was going to get a new car, thats what I would get. But you really cant go wrong with anything Acura. I had an old Legend. It was fast, reliable, luxury, all in one package. I'm biased too though, cause im also an ex-integra lover.

Teh Celica sleeps for Winter '06. Suspension overhaul begins........
Yeah MR2's are junk.. glad mine is gone...

I picked up a 2001 Audi TT drop top and am really happy with it, luxury, sporty and fast. I got another 3 year warrenty, but over all like it alot. I would reccomend.

It came to about 17k with warrenty and all.

MR2's arent crap. my cousin's 2001 MR2 has over 100K already (ugh long story). its driving strong still. haven't had any problems. It really depends on who takes good care of their car then it'll last.

so we were out looking and she found an Inifiniti I30. 2000 or 2001 with almost 100K . Looks like its in excellent condition.

question is, is this a good idea to get this? I mean It has about 100K on it alreay for being 5 years old. I figure mostly highway, but is thing about to die? Do infiniti's last a long time?
i just sold my 99 Infiniti I30 Limited, it has a great ride , and nice amount power you'll enjoy it.

I've been throwing around the idea of a new car lately (as I've posted before). Nothing out there has really satisfied me yet, I drove an Audi TT coupe but I think it had some problems. We just got a red TT droptop in at work and I'm looking forward to test driving it after it finishes our "re-conditioning" process. I don't need a new car but one would be fun.

What I'd do is just let her pick the car and deal with it. If she's got a job then let her take care of it. Why let her pick the car? because she is the one that is driving it. So get her to test drive it and see how she likes it. If she does then get the thing. Get a warranty (extended) if possible for all those unexpected problems. When my sister bought the celica (now mine) she bought an extended warranty. It ended up saving her butt when they had to rebuild the engine in it.
so after a few weeks of test driving and many many many times trying to get her to decide (why can't women make decisions... another topic) she decided to go with a mazda 6. So I the process is finished and all I have to do is go pay for it today or tomorrow.

Thanks for the discussion and help trying to pick a car.
