no, if you jump the radiator temp sensor, the fan will never come on . you need a raditor with a temp sensor. if that dont fix it, you need to jump the wire erik posted.

This make perfect sense. I'd like to find another way, if not. I'll have to put in a GT radiator with the temp plug.

With out a sensor there is no indication for the fans to kick on to start cooling

I will return one day.
Ok, the sensor in the radiator measures the water temp. Once the water gets to hot the sensor sends a signal to turn the fans on. Without the sensor there the fans are constantly running in a safty mode due to a failed radiator sensor.

The reason our fans are always running is because we (ST's) do not have this sensor.

I will return one day.
err sorry I should have clarified, I knew all that, I wonder how the ST knows when to turn these fans on if it does not have a temp sensor on the radiator.

Are the fans always on in a normal ST?
Good question, that fans operate normally on a ST with out this sensor

I will return one day.

for the st the sensor is located in coolant housing below distributor and
contains a single-pin connector with a Blue/Black wire.

everything you ever wanted to know about the 6th gens cooling fans:

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
ok then, it seems the simplest solution would be to get a GT radiator smile.gif
You guys are funny.... thinking of all kinds of ways to rewire and swap rads out when you dont have to.

The temp switch on an ST is under the distributor!
the temp switch on a GT is in the bottom of the rad!
The ST rad is smaller than a GT rad and the GT rad is smaller than the alltrac rad so if you put 2 and 2 together... i wire it to run all the time to prevent overheating! If you are doing some hard driving the ST rad might not be able to cool the water fast enough and cause overheating since it is not meant for that kind of powerful motor.

Exactly what I had said!
I have a GT radiator and never had any problems with cooling.

question for u ST guys still on ur ST radiators w the swap...does ur fans turn on as soon as u turn the key to the on position or does it turn on when normal op temp is reached?

mine starts when normal op temp is reached btw

same here, and my fans come on and off like a normal car.

Soon as I turn the key they switch on. I'm going to try to get this working without a GT radiator, just the sensor. I need to talk to dave about how the car is wired right now. If it's to much of a hassle, I'll just leave it the way it is.

Or I might wire in a switch to turn the fans off. I'm only doing this so I can listen to the engine and troubleshoot some sounds. With the fans on its very loud and I can't hear the engine to well.

We'll see

I will return one day.
ah ok...i'll ask Dr Tweak how he wired mine up because mine only turns on when i hit normal temp op. i can see how it would get annoying when the fans turn on right after u turn the key to the on position.

im also thinking that my fans being on all the time is not letting my engine get up to normal operating temp
With my fans on full time I have no problem warming up to full temp.

I will return one day.
ok then, that theory, GONE! smile.gif

thermostat replacement it is, lol
bboy did you ever find out how tweak wired yours
The jumper is something youll have to do when you take out your a/c. I think you guys need to jump those pins or connect the wires because even if you do get to the real problem, you may not know because of this additional issue.

I didn't feel like reading all three pages, so if this has already been stated, I appologize....

The radiator fan temp switch (sensor) which turns the fans on, is located on the lower radiator on the GT and GT4 models, and on the engine coolant kneck for the ST model. If your using the stock ST fuse block, look for the blue-white wire in the EA1 plug (I can get the exact location later tonight). This needs to go the temp switch. The GT's temp switch wiring is on the engine room harness (the same bundle as the headlights) and therefor doesn't have this problem.

I bought a Koyo radiator for my car, since the water inlet/outlet lines up perfectly with the 3S motor and had the threaded boss for the switch.

Then there is the A/C pressure switch, which will also activate the fans. This is the plug shown on the first page. You'll have to jump the wires togther as stated before if you've removed A/C.
