i was looking into sway bars but my friend says they would be pointless for me. 1) i wouldnt notice a difference with or without them. 2) they are completely useless in the back. with a fwd car. he was explaining y but i dont remember. can someone tell me the truth? ty

Agreed. Sway bars can make a HUGE difference in handling. Or just replacing the bushings can help a great deal. If you want em get em. And dont listen to ANYTHING else your friend tells you!

Actually, with a larger rear sway bar you get more oversteer. With a FF layout that is a good thing becasue FF cars tends to understeer a lot.

I haven't install mine but, my friend has a ford focus and he install sway bars on it and even a focus feels way diferent with the sway bars so I expect more from a celi

During high speed cornering maneuvers, vehicles tend to flex at the strut tower portion of the chassis. by using swaybars eliminates body flex for improved handling and drivability~~~~~~~tattoomike

I just put the Suspension Techniques swaybars on my car about a week ago, and I have to say they make a HUGE difference in how the car drives. I have no other suspension mods but I feel that I don't need any more. The car doesn't understeer nearly as badly, and it is very responsive in corners. Much MUCH more so than before I installed them.

And I bet your friend also thinks exhaust + CAI = 100 more hp lol. Naw, just kidding but they definitely don't know what they're talking about

You need to be careful when uprating the swaybar size. Fit the wrong size/combination, and you will quite easily destroy the handling of the car. Very easy to increase oversteer in a FWD car by going too large up front. Only go down a proven route unless you are prepared to experiment.

By uprating both front and rear bars on my GT-Four, I have not only dramatically reduced the inherent factory understeer, but I have also made the back end more 'twitchy' which suits my driving style. It doesn't exactly behave like a RWD car, but it is easier to get the rear to step out in an almost lazy and controlled manner.

If you're not sure as to how much sway bars can affect handling, try a half decent driving simulator game such as Gran Turismo 4 and try adjusting the sway bar sizes on the Celica and see what sort of potentially undesirable effects can occur

I'm not saying "Don't do it". In fact, done correctly, it often does make a huge improvement - just beware of the potential pitfalls.
