Topic #37940 10 posts Started by Celicatime
I was looking around at some of the crate engine sources and I saw a variety of prices. Does anyone know a rough ballpark for what a 5SFE should cost on average?

jspecautosports.com $895 !!!! ???? kindasad.gif http://www.jspecautosports.com/catalog_pro...spx?prod_id=428

(it says engine only but then goes on to list all this other stuff that is included. strange)

orientengine.com $2200

powerpro200.com $2545

Have you considered a low mile 5sfe from a junk yard? I bet you can get a decent one shipped to you for under $500. No sense in putting a new economy engine in a fairly old car unless you were planning to keep it for a VERY long time. Even then, the other route would be better since those engines have been known to last 300,000 miles.

Good point. I guess I'm afraid that the one I get from the junk yard will be all torn up like the one I have. It's at 200k miles and I haven't determined yet if it's just a matter of minor repairs or some major stuff.

wow thats just rape for a 5s motor. CHeck car-part.com for the best deal. I meen honestly it should be around 500$ for a used motor in good shape.

BANNED!
It's kinda rediculous how much 5SFE's go for, even used from salvage yards on Car-Part.com or on EBay. kindasad.gif I'm keeping my eyes out also for a fresh(er) 5SFE and most rebuilt long blocks are about 1 grand upon core exchange, and any low mileage used motors are upwards of $1500-2000 which is just way too much.

It seems alot of these places see how common a motor it is, and decide to charge top dollar for them even with high mileage. Sorta rediculous, but theres more reasonable deals out there either from a U-pick-it yard or guys that swap or something.

The O2 sensor did fail the test - assuming I did it right - after I messed up the injectors. I'll replace it once I fix the injectors.
