I was thinking the same thing. How can all that happen with the officer just thinking he saw something or saying. Thats not due process.

but that's what i was thinking too.. no appeal/review just seems so wrong... every other offense has a right to a court hearing...

Lessen the burden of proof. That is a disturbing statement. Back when I had my Celi (all of 2 weeks ago), I used to run at night with my blue neons on and I would get challenged by people all the time. I have NEVER participated in a street race, but had a cop been sitting in the right place at the right time, what would he thought of me and some stupid rice boy going cruising past him at 40? I probably would have lost my DL and my car for "street racing." This is a crappy way to go about fixing a much larger problem of stupid, irresponsible people with too much money and not enough common sense.

^turn off your neons! lol. jk, in florida, blue neons are illegal because they're used by emergency vehicles(police, ambulance, etc.). so if its illegal in ur area too, i wouldve busted u for street racing too.

here in cali, street glow, nitrous, exhaust, intake all illegal. exhaust doesnt meet sound level limits, intake and intercoolers (according to chp) modifiy smog, and street glow is a "distraction to other drivers" which I think is a joke, I dont have street glow, but id rather some civic running street glow than the blonde in the jetta with the cell phone grafted to her face doing her makeup in her rearview mirror.

if two vehciles are accelerating at the same rate of speed untill one break the speed limit, both cars are street racing. Thats how they define it here in cali at least. Ive been thrown in handcuffs before driving home at 1am, he asked me to pop my hood. I walked to the back of the car (in my mr2) and he called me a smartass so i popped the front and he asked where my engine was. Got in my face, we had 2 squad cars and 1 local PD bike and a towing truck [not a flatbed, good luck trying to get my car on that]. trying to see if anything was illegal. Sometimes you just end up in a bad situation, but its the price we pay to modify cars.

Btw, if they have to tow your car any damage your vehcile sustains during the legal process of correcting your mistake is on your head. AND you pay for towing charges and impounding fees.

Oh there IS a loophole...The Bill also bans the connection of after-market nitrous oxide fuel systems on all public streets and highways and provides for fines of up to $2000 and jail terms of up to 6 months for convictions. ...the "connection" you can have a nitrous tank just not connected. If you reallly want to run nitrous, hide the bottle, paint it black, and have a tool so you can remove all the lines quickly if need be.




Sounds pretty dumb to me, oh well not really much we can do.

luckily this is still just a bill so it's not in effect yet... people said even if there isn't a formal appeals process you can still get the case into court...

i don't condone street racing either (i don't race myself) but i just think this needs to be refined... a LOT before it actually becomes law...

and like didn't a few hundred people die last year from gun violence in toronto while about 10-20 died in car accidents related to racing? shouldn't they be trying to stop gun violence instead

Everyone always uses the SOME LITTLE KID IS ORPHANED NOW, people die everyday and those responsible should be held accountable. Nonetheless blaming EVERYONE with mods, is redicilous.In this day and age whatever happened to innocent until prove guitly, giving a single human being the power to be judge and jury is abuse of power.

I for one wont give my freedoms up, If asked to pop my trunk I always refuse. (its always empty anyway) but to give in to someones demands for no valid reason is not being a problem, its USING the rights given to use. If you dont use them, you deserve to loose them.

I hope they really do go through this with a fine tooth comb, you should write the nearest government authority and voice your consern. An online poll or a collection of names will help your cause.

There have been laws about speeding leading to seizures in the US, and they have all been over turned luckily.

Enforcement will never stop them from racing. Hopefully education and legal outlets
may dissuade kids from street racing.

I work at a performance shop now and 2nights ago, one of our coustomers who has a 500hp Vette was racing 3 other vettes up a highway and hit a devider at 200+km/h. Hez in cricical condition and most likely wont make it. Becuase of these new laws and this accident, plus another accident about 2 weeks ago with some guy who was runnin his civic up younge street doin 176km/h that hit another car killing 2 ppl, they are making strickt new laws about street racing. Last night they proposed a bill to punish street racers, they approved it and even set up a demonstration of what the new bill intitles by noon today. Pretty much now, you get caught street racing, your car gets crushed. They had 2 old souped up civics that were impounded by the cops from about 2 and a half years ago that they crushed live on tv to show how serious they are. But yea, the ontario gouvernment is becoming really strickt on street racing and their laws.

Personaly, I think these laws should be put in place mainly because i dont want to see any one else i know get into an accident. We even had the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corperation) *biggest news company in all of Canada* come down this afternoon and talk to the owner of my work about the parts we sell aswell as the whole contraversy regarding Nitrous Oxide in our laws. Ill post a link to that video when i can find it

Harsher street racing laws? Yes. I'm for it.

Removal of due process? Absolutely not.

I think street racing should be stopped. It does kill people and that is bad.

However, the wording on the law sounds way too loose to not be abused.

And what about other things that kill people? Lets try old people driving. My mom got hit by an old guy going 45 (she was stopped behind a garbage truck.) He couldn't figure out why he had stopped, so he floored it again and hit her going 25. Why does he still have a license?

What about people who kill by talking on cell phones?

What about frikkin second hand smoke? That kills 60,000 people a year (or so the Deparment of health says)

What about drunk drivers?

What about homeless people dying from cold?

So long as the people who don't vote (young people) are affected by a law it will be strict. You know why old people are not cracked down on? Cause they vote, and are active, and will raise a stink if some lawmaker trys to keep there 25mph-in-a-45-zone butts off the street.

Vote. Complain to the politicians. Work to end street racing, and work to end goverment taking over your life with laws that can be applied to anyone who has aftermarket parts on there car.

haha, I've been going up to the local street races for years now. In fact, i just got back home tonight from them. You know what, they are some really good times. You meet new people, see some nice cars, bull sh*t around and just have a good time. In all the years I've been going we've never had any sort of problem with any one getting hurt or cars crashing. This is probably because *gasp* we arent retarted! But......thats had to come by in this world today.

I strongly dislike the way that the people who are backing this bill characterize modified cars' owners as unlawful people with the soul purpose to go out and street race... The kid with the B16 civic isn't at any more of a disposition to brake traffic laws than the 45 year guy who bought a corvette during a mid-life crisis (or the housewife who's kids are fighting in the backseat and shes running behind scedule to get home)... Worse yet, this is the type of bill that nobody wants to challege because, as already stated, you get characterized as insensitive and "all for street racing"... This situation is very similar along the lines of the patriot act- suspected of terrorisim, you don't get due prosses in the legal system. Both are against the core issues of democracy in that you don't get to defend your actions and therefore are at the mercy of the higher power- and this is why I feel that this bill is inappropriate, regardless of it's good intentions. So what happens to the kid who has just rims on his 96 accord and passes a car at 61 in a 55 and gets a prick of an officer who knows the above proposed law? Before you say "well I dont street race so I dont need to worry", how do you figure? What happens to the kid who IS street racing- In his dad's maxima? All it takes is a cop who knows how to manipulate the law in his favor, and your screwed and you dont get a fair say because "you were street racing" ....

Man that bill if freakin' rediculous! Im a firm believer that anyone who is caught speeding or racing should be punished, its breaking the law. But going after people with modified cars without any reason is stupid. They should hold more sanctioned events if they want to help the problem, because people will race anyway. And towing your car for mods is also rediculous. if registration, smog and insurance are legit, than why should they hassel you for a front mount? Its also hipocritical, Ive met a cop with a 400hp Turbo charged 350z another with a hopped up mustang, nitrous ready? WTF? This kinda crap pisses me off, you should only be pulled over if your breaking the law. sorry guys had to get that off my chest.
