Interior Door Fabric - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #38366 12 posts Started by JonMarkos
The fabric on my door panels is coming off (the glue isn't holding anymore), I took it to an upholstery shop and the guy said that it would be impossible to reglue the fabric back on since it is hard to find a glue that holds to vinyl, but the car came like that from the factory and the fabric held for almost 9 years, does anyone know of a glue I can use, or a way I can set the fabric so that it holds? The door looks fine without it but I think the tan fabric really adds to the cars interior...

It is the fabric pictured on the passenger door here, the drivers side door fabric is completely removed...

We shall show mercy, but we shall not ask for it.

my interior is the same color combo (w/o the wood trim) and i dont have fabric there...i say just take it off, especially if its already off the drivers door

pull off wat you have
take a drill with a very thin bit and drill in a couple holes to give the glue something to sink into and bite down on...then apply your new cloth..should probably hold a little better

3m spray glue might be good for this project as well
spray adhesive FTW

(**** i work at a craft store i shoulda known that)

Drill holes into where, the outer edge around the vinyl piece that the glue covers, or on the inside surface? I think the biggest concern the guy at the upholstery shop had was the outer edges where the vinyl pieces met...are you saying I should drill all the way around that center piece?

or you can staple it.
pull the cloth and put staple on the edge on the back, I now that's what my aunt does. she's a pro, but she does sofa and home stuff not car, but I think this technique may help you this time
dude please tell me you havent stapeled it yet lol all you need to do is clean the vinyl with acetone or laquer thinner (yes this will melt vinyl so be gentle and qwick ) then use some 3m spray adheasive lightly and let it flash for a little bit then re apply trust me i got pics to prove this works
^^ that's a better idea biggrin.gif

I keep learning. but I always share what I know.
i'll send you step by step proceedures on its repair i been doin this a long time now and got a pair of wicked panels that i been trying to sell (that no one wants cos of the blue inserts , if it were any other color guys would jump for it )

Same problem for me, and I used super glue. It worked great.
When i bought my celica the fabric was coming off also so i just ripped it off and was going to redu it, i tried vinyl but i had a hard time making it look good. so i went to autozone and bought a can of vinyl dye, it turned out really really good..if thats the part of the car your talking about..
