Dear non-Americans,

Do you get offended when we call your football sport "soccer"?

Dear Americans,

Why do we call football "football", when we don't use our feet to play the game?

Hell, why do we use the foot and yard and drive on the right hand side of the road? Because we're Americans and we can.

I played soccer for three years in college... definitely one of those sports that is more exciting to play than watch.
it's not only in america. don't think we're so pompus that it's only different here.

it's because there are so many forms of "football". canada is known to refer to it as "soccer" and "football" refers to their canadian form of american football.

south africa also calls it soccer. and honestly, most english-speaking countries use both to refer to it. it really just depends.

also, why does no one ever bust the chops of non-english speaking countries. how about in italy it's called "calcio". which comes from the word meaning "to kick".
