i saved up a little by doing misc things, i started spending less at school, used a little refund check, and did a medical research study smile.gif
Had $10K that we were going to use as a down on a 4Motion 2006 Passat V6......decided to forgo the Passat and mod the Celica (wife's Idea at that). So......that's how we got the money. Already had it.

work biggrin.gif i'm a natural born saver, so i'm pretty good with handling money. financially stable even with college tuitions and the dreaded "girlfriend fund". having a good paying job also helps wink.gif

I saved money. No Shopping for myself except for nececities. I was being paid 9.50 /hr at the time and going to school part time. It was hard, but if you really want it, its easier to give things up. Well worth it in the end

sperm bank?
I worked two jobs for half a year. All the money from the second job went to the clip fund. most of the money from the first job went to parts fund. Stopped going out, and I stopped buying clothes for a while.

I will return one day.

Taking a Loan to buy a car/mods for it, is just plain stupid. If you can't afford it at that moment, wait untill you have saved enough cash to do it straight up.

I'm 22 and working full time since I'm 20. Living at home so no constant costs each month. I worked (besides school) since I was 13 or so and saving everything I had. Not buying needless stuff like sigarettes or Scooters/Mopeds. Bought a Cheap car (300 dollar) when I had my Driving License (19 at the time) and another one (2000 dollar) when I was 20. Bought the Celica when I was 21.

JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

So then taking out a loan to buy a house is stupid also, Everyone just save up to buy a house full in cash, it so stupid that you don't have $300,000 just for the cost of the house, then add everything up...what? you don't have that in your bank account? Lazy!!! You've been spending all your money on like rent? why when you could live at home???

Sorry some of us have responsiblity and bills!! And fiances smile.gif

no hard feelings

i agree on modding the car, but buying a car? Atleast its a loan and not a credit card!!!

A Car decreases in value over the years. Car that you buy for 30k euro is worth 1/3 after 5 years. So what do you have left. 20k euro lost in 5 years = 4000 a year, makes 350 dollars/month. Maybe by that time you have payed out the loan with also alot of interest.

When You buy a House its completly different. A House usually increases in value. Its a long time investment you make which, when your moving away to another (bigger/expensive)house, can be used to either upgrade your mortgage or do something else with it. OKAY in both cases its not really your own property but at least with a House you can't total it or be totaled in traffic!!! And what does the payment+interest cost for a house maybe 6-700 dollars a month. Double that of my example of the car but at least have more then only 4 seats and a steering wheel in your possesion!!

The Mods and swap and the Car itself I bought with money I had on my Bank Account. With more to ad. I have enough money on the bank to Buy a Real GT4 and mod it to 500 BHP and still having money left. And what do you have then. A 12-7 year old car that is not worth anything when you sell it. Buying a House in 1-2 years I can decorate the Entire house and buy a piece of it making the mortgage lower therefore the rent is lower.

Agreed. Taking a loan to modify a car is NOT a smart thing. Let's say you take out a loan for $10K to customize your celica. Modification do NOT increase the value of your car. So you drop a 3S-GTE into the motor, body kit, whatever. Then you get in an accident. If you don't have insurance, you're out everything and paying for a loan for nothing. If you do have insurance, they see 199x Celica.......and will pay you based on that. And you're still out the loan for the money.

A car is not a wise invenstment. Houses are a completely different animal, as stated above. If you can't pay for the mod at the time, then it's not time for the mod.
Saved up for it
stopped smokin, brought lunch to work, live with parents. oh, and of course no girlfriend. sure is easy to save up money!

well actually you can total a house, at least here in Florida smile.gif and its alomost inpossible to buy home owner insurance just becuase of the hurricanes and flooding. and o also sink holes, they don't cover property so that $85,000 lot (yes a normal size lot is that much here in deltona) is gone, it isn't worth anything. And since yes the price of houses have been going up,when you sell your house you have to pay more for another, so it doesn't matter because its porpertanial (sp? its early lol), you not making money.

Also if you get to the point that you pay off your house, you have to pay $20,000 to $30,000 ayear, just in taxes and such, thats over $2000 a month, So why would you want to pay it off?

Steve

also, my car loan is at 6.5% which is pretty low, i also have the money to buy it cash..but theres this little thing called credit that you need to buy a house. My sister in law just bought a house it was $150,000. She paid 105,000 down!!! yes you read that right. And they still would't give her the loan!! she had to have a co-signer....so you need credit

Steve

my medical study was me basically testing a drug used to target the section of your brain that deals with addiction/cravings (its fda approved for drug rehab, but they wanted to try and market it as a weight loss drug) so they studied my brain on and off the drug, took a ridiculous amount of blood and put radiation all up in me..

it was the creepiest most awkward thing ive ever done but i would do it again in a heartbeat for 1300 bucks.. it only took a week and i only had to actually be at johns hopkins for like 4 hours total

85000 dollars for a House, man you cant even buy a toolshed for 85k dollar here!! Here the total that needs to be payed of every year is about 7-8000 Euro's a year. Things are completly different I guess between our countries, but still the main point remains, dont buy something you cant afford in the first place!

JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!
I had a alltrac, 94 celica , 90 gts all at one time..... living at home I could afford alot of nice toys biggrin.gif. So when my alltrac had 150k on i and i figured why not buy a new motor I bought a whole st185 clip for cheep jdm motor/trans.... Parents ended up kicking me out of the house alltrac/gts was in moms name because insurance was sky rocketing at 20. 6gc was in my name. So I swapped the motor straite from the clip I had.

I would never get a loan to do this swap. A loan obviously meens yo dont have enough money to do this project. Making it a daily driver isnt the best idea in the entire world. Especially when you get the motor in there and you get boost crazy and try to make the car faster and faster and just consistantly breaking things..... Its definately not fun.

Sucks because I miss my altrac frown.gif....
