well i've been trying to find another route beside the ct series turbos just cause there's always morethan one way, but everytime there's a big post about anything NOT 3s then the post turns into a 5 page rant about which block is stronger, what pressurethey will hold and so on. SO if you have a GT or ST with a turbo put on then vote and put up some numbers



and please don't flame me because I know 3s's are stronger canse deal with more power, are cheaper and all that.....but I don't have one of those and I'm not lookin for much more than 200hp

good post, youll find most 5sfte's are dual ct26s some are the ct27s (pressure2 being the more popular one). 7afte's i think are like t3 turbos? t25s? im not sure i cant remember now

Most of what I find on here are dual entry ct's or upgraded ct's. however If I go to look at 3sgte stuf fthey have alot of garett t3/t4's...now i know the 3s has better stock bottom end strength but still, if you are not exceeding the max amount of boost that a 5s can handle with a similar or the same turbo then why wouldn't it work..

im running a ATS ct-27.
the reason most people go with the ct-26, or some for of an upgraded ct-26, is because its the easiest turbo to install on the 5s. the manifold, turbo and DP all bolt right up, as well as the oil pan, and oil return line. the feed line is pretty simple to mod with basic welding skills, or your local muffler shop or whatever can usually do it for around 20$

you "could" go with whatever turbo you wanted to, just a matter of getting a manifold that accepts the mounting flange you intend to use, or an adapter for the stock manifold, or fabbing up a custom manifold.
heres a plot of a TO4E 46 trim compressor, (the one thats used in the ct-27)

you can see how @ 10psi, im just getting into the sweetspot of the compressor.
the more i turn it up, the better it gets.
for 99% of us with the 5sfTe, we'd never see the best part of a turbo like thats flow capibilitys.

on pump fuel, because of the higher compression ratio, and factory ECU, we're limited to the amount of boost we can run, especially for the guys that have higher miles on theyre motors, or no metal headgasket.

unless your planning on fully building your 5sfe for boost (IE: forged pistons, stronger rods, FULL standalone EMS), its not really worth the extra expense you'd have from trying to run another turbo.
all this only applies to the 5s.

BUT I also want room to grow by being able to upgrade my fuel system and computer rather than send the turbo out and haveing it go to a c2-27 and spent a round $1000. i want to get around 200 now and be able to use the same unmodified turbo but just add other mods to get the 250 or whatever number..I want to buy he turbo and intercooler one time , not upgrade em

ct-20b = ct-27. the diffrence between them is negligable.
trust me, noone here is gonna be running a gt42 on the 5s! lol
noshoes is IMO one of the PREMIER tuners of the 3s in the country, along with rickyb, john reed, chrisk and a few select others.

i mean i guess if you wanted to go that route you might be able to take advantage of a street brawler 46 trim turbo kit for the 2nd gen 3sgte.....cost about 2000$ with potentials on a 3sgte to make 300whp
i could see it working well on a 5sfe

i think a ct26 is perfect for 99% of people out there. its a great turbo, easy and cheap, spools quick and makes good power. you can run it up to about 15psi.... and thats probably more then you would ever want to run on a 5sfe. anything more, would need some major upgrades to avoid detonation.

the only problem i see with that, other than needing a fully built motor, and standalone to run that much turbo, is that on a 3s, it dont spool till 4000 RPM or so..by the time it spools on the 5s (yes, its .2 liters more displacment, but the "pump" is all in the head) your nearly out of its powerband.
for what your goals sound like, a ct-27 or ct-20b would be a perfect choice.
or if you wanna go the custom one off route, i'd like to see what somthing like the gt-28rs could do...

i looked at extremeboost.com and there's a gt28r with a 60mm wheel, 60 trim and .60A/R good for up to 290hp that seems will work nicely...comp chart wise atleast. and that is if I run 10psi i will go right through the middle of the sweet spot

BTW does anyone have a comp map program so that i dont have to print these guys off and try to graph them by hand?

jeff, the dude who owns the place is VERY well known on the mr2 board for ripping people off, and failing to deliver promised parts.
yea, he built a 800whp mr2...with money he stole from hardworking mr2oc members.
but yea, i do think the '28rs would be a fun turbo to try.

i have a 1st gen dSM 14B on my car right now but i need to make charge pipes for it to run. as well as a emanage to tune it. i'll post more on it as soon as i get it runing.

i actaully was thinkinga disco potatoe would be a good one...but wouldn't you still need a management like a greddy ultimate to run something like that?

why are you avoiding trying to use a ct26.... Extreme boost from the mr2oc board is a con... Ripped a ton of people off I would never buy anything off of him... If your only looking for 200hp ct26 is perfect.

because the availibilit yof a good low miledge ct-26 dual inlet is not easy to some by for a low price. AND alot of mr2 people don't even run ct-26's. I wasn't going to buy anything from him anyway...just loking at hp numbers and compressor maps

I have that same turbo on my 3SGE and I love it. Even at the stock 6-7 psi setting it really moves.
