Topic #39092 50 posts Started by CelicaGT04
Ok guys so after about 1 and a half years of researching and saving money i now have enough knowlegde and money to complete my swap. I will cover everything i go through during my process of making my car 3sgte powered. Tomorrow (Tuesday July 11) is when i am going to buy my ST185 front clip from a company nearby. I will take many pictures and write many times to kep you guys posted. I would like to thank everyone who has done a write up on thier previous 3SGTE swap, this information was golden in helping me know what it takes and how to correctly do a 3SGTE swap. Hopefully i can have everything done by the end of july. I am getting a good friend of mine to help me complete the swap. If anyone nearby the area wants to come check out the action PM me. My fingers are crossed that everything will work fine. I have compression numbers on the clip and leakdown %, I also have pictures of what the clip looks like.

I have a 1995 Toyota Celica GT
White
Hatchback
2.2L DOHC

So here are the pics of my car as it sits now...

Here are some pictures of the clip im going to be getting...

looks nice. what are you doing for wiring?

For wiring i will most likely send it to DG Performance, But my buddy who owns a shop wants to look at it first.

Yeah im glad im going with the clip too, it seems to be much more help then the engine alone.
Goodluck and take your time.
[color=#FF0000][font=Arial Black][size=7][b]DAY ONE!!!

Ok guys so heres the deal, i was going to buy the clip today and i called the guy at 3:00pm and he said the clip was already being bought by another customer. I was pretty upset, but he told me that he had a 3sgte engine without the clip for $1250.00. So i thought about it for a long while and i decided to go ahead and buy it. I figure with the money i saved froom the clip i will have enough to buy the small parts that i will need to complete the swap. I have yet to take pictures of the engine. Its late and its been a long day negotiating with the engine seller. I will have pics up tomorrow!
what a bastard! that sucks probably had that planned.

good things come to those who wait!

but anyways good luck with the swap.

should of got this clip jarco is selling on ebay, looks very clean st185 clip. either way, good luck with the swap! thumbsup.gif

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.
uh oh, I am afraid the swap will take 10 times longer now........because looking for parts sucks a lot and very time consuming.

you need to nab up every single part manny has for sale RIGHT NOW if you dont want this swap to become a nightmare.

you might actually luck out, i suggest you PM him ASAP!

\

im going to do that asap. I know that not waiting for a clip was not smart, but it was a fair deal for the engine. Wish me luck guys
atleast you know that it wasnt smart, but with mannys help youll be up to clip status in no time, good luck!
Good luck with the swap, like they said take your time. Have fun ! thats whats important

I will return one day.
Thanks for all the support guys!! Today is

DAY TWO!! lol

well today was a slightly productive day, i will soon be taking my engine, parts, and car to a friends shop to be doing all the work. Also i took off the crank cover to look at the timing belt. Here are some pics to keep you guys busy for noww!!!

Im actually going to buy the one that manny has for sale.. so yes i have found it (thank god) lol
is that a USDM motor?

Im not sure on how to check that. They did not specify when i bought the motor. How would i check? I can tell you that teh wiring harness that is cut on the motor is on the right side of the throttle body if you are looking at the engine from the front.

i would NEVER buy a motor with a cut harness. your going to end up spending as much if not more then the clip cost you in the end trying to get all your parts. luckly, manny is parting out a 3s, so give him a ton of cash and he will save your but and make sure you have everything to make the motor run. smile.gif

your turbo looks like a USDM one to me. you can also check to see if you have an EGR on the motor. if it is in fact USDM, you might also want to buy a JDM ecu from manny. thats a 20whp gain, just from that ecu .

Best way to tell if its jdm is by the egr valve... If it isnt there then its a jdm motor...

BANNED!
good luck with that swap
HAHAHAA... WOW! I bet nobody (myself included) would have thought it would take my lazy ARSE this long to make a move on my motor!!! lol I bought this motor when i was 18 with the intention of having it installed when i bought it...SIIIKKE i fooled myself. I really can not believe that i threw this kind of curve ball at my self, but now is the time to swing away!!

Anyways, for those who have not seen this thread before...whats going on guys. I just wanted to let everyone know that i am bringing rejuvenation to this thread lol. Actually the true reason i am rebuilding my 2nd gen 3sgte is because my stock 5sfe pooped on me about a month ago. The process of taking the motor down and seeing how it looks inside has already began, and the long road ahead looks LONG lol.. to say the least. Anyways, i do have some pics of the progress that has been going on the last couple of weeks.

Hope you guys like what you see, in the mean time i will hopefully be putting it all back together within the next couple of weeks~
**also i will be updating frequently

EDIT- sorry for poor pic quality.. only got a phone
