Hey guys, I need some trouble shooting tips that can help me head in the right direction.
Just yesterday, My car was perfectly fine. I tried to start it today, and it was a no go. The engine cranks, but the car doesn't start. What are the possible problems that could cause this? Thanks for all the replies in advance!!

I'm guessing it's somewhere in the ignition system. Try checking ignition fuse, ecu fuse, cap and rotor. Or you can go onto the BGB forums on www.celicatech.com for more troubleshooting info.
If you cant get it started or figure out...a good jump will prob. work and take it to go get it fixed.
check the battery with a volt meter and make sure its getting the right juice typically around 12 somethin if its not then check your alternator. i dont know if that may be the problem, is your car hold power well???

kinda leaning towards ignition system issues or bad gas also but it could be electrical was it trying to start , freee spinning , sputtering any kind thing hinting it wanted to run
well it can only be either no spark or no fuel. check your coil wire connection. It cranks so it's pretty much getting power. i dont see this as a fuel problem since it just ran fine the other day. although it could be. Have you done anything to the car since it stopped starting?
All signs point to your igniton coil.
is the engine getting fuel?

Thanks for the reply guys! And yes the engine cranks, so it is getting power. How do I check if my engine is getting fuel? I have half a tank of fuel in there, sooooo maybe the fuel pump? But I'm leaning toward the ignition system mainly the ignition coil like what you guys said. I don't have a lot of money, so I need to get this in one shot!! biggrin.gif.
are you getting a spark?

if you arent than its the ignition coil. check if its on right.

if the plugs are wet you're getting fuel, if you see a spark jump from the plug boot to the head you have spark. timing belt jumped a few teeth?

How could I tell if the timing belt jumped a few teeth? Do I have to take the timing belt out or is there another way to check without doing major work?

check that the crank and cam are aligned.

WO WO WO before you go crazy and start wrenching away at so called problems run a diagnstics on it we have i do belive all you have to do on your car cuase i have the same model is that a paperclip open the hood on the right side of your fendor wall ther is a ODB1 diagnotics hook up take the paperclip and hook up TE1 and i thinks is E1 then go inside your car turn it to accesorie the check engine like will flase at you it will give you 2 sets of flashes like blink blink blink stop then blink blink stop that is your check engine code if you have a manuel there in there if not find them on the net or a local part store will have the codes to just call its might blink more then one set of numbers. just Write down the code and look them up if its your ignition system it will tell you promise.
My brother had a problem like this a while back. He was driving to the bank and while he was in the parking lot, the engine just completely stopped running. Electrical wise it was working. The engine wouldn't start up. Turns out that the TIMING BELT cut loose becuz it was old. I suggest taking off the valve cover and check the timing belt on the cam gear just to make sure it isn't the timing belt. It's only 6 bolts on the top and get a flat screw and pop it open.

like others said check you ignition coil first....toyotas are known to have these problems...ive had them go bad on 2 5sfe and 1 3sge....

I know a few guys (including myself) on the forum have had a similar problem. Find where your harness meets your ignitor and jiggle it around a little bit while someone tries to start the car. Some times the pins dont make a good contact the power dies at the coil and never makes it to the distributor. If this works all you have to do is unplug the wires, slightly bend down the pins to make a better contact and your good to go.
