My English is nothing special... I know that. So... just wondering what you folks usually do when you see:

1. just wrong letter (never, newer, nover... etc.)
2. letters fine, or just bad tense (I have been working since 7am, I am working since 7am, etc. )
3. total nonsence (reversing light, backing-up light, recede light, etc.)

So what you will do?

I can't stand people with their horrible grammar, I think it's one of the reasons why a few people are so frustrated at some of these newer members.

Malpaso, your english is better than some people who have grown up in the USA. We notice some of the horrible grammar from some of our members, most of us just ignore it & try to answer the best we can anyway.

Coomer should turn on some kind of forum spell check for people.

i dont bother to reply unless its something that poses a danger to others like brake failure or the car exploding.

For me... if I see that the person is from outside the states or English speaking country I will try my best to understand what the person wrote and reply best I can.

6g Celicas can be found all over the world, so we need to welcome people that cannot speak or write English to well to post on the forums, at least I do.

I will try my best to understand. I know for a fact that our fingers don't always hit the "correct key". Sentences like this:
I drove my car today and i tdied on me on te highway.
should be pretty understandable

The only thing I can't stand is the incorrect usage of capitcal letters...

I Drove My Car Today And It Died On Me On The Highway.
or
I dRoVe mY cAR tODay AnD iT diEd oN mE oN ThE higHwAY.
or
I DROVE MY CAR TODAY AND IT DIED ON ME ON THE HIGHWAY.

This isn't a college essay where whatever you write is placed under a microscope. As long as you get the point across, there shouldn't be any problem with it. Sometimes people just type really quickly and don't bother proofreading their post.

As an English major I feel the need to comment

The point of a language is to express yourself or make yourself understood, therefore, as long as others can understand you, then you are successfully communicating!

This doesn't mean that utterly horrible grammar doesn't annoy me sometimes. I know I miss keys or hit extra ones all the time. Hell, I misspell crap in almost every post, I think. I can deal with minor stuff, and members whose native tongues aren't English I easily forgive, but sometimes really poor grammar just makes you look idiotic. I try to imagine a person actually speaking when I read posts, and if a post can't be read out loud at least fairly smoothly, then I wind up picturing the poster as a babbling toddler with a stuttering problem as he throws a temper tantrum...

my favorite English word is "lycanthropy." It means "of, or having to do with werewolves."

my boyfriend's favorite words is "aphrodisiac." I'm not sure if I spelled that perfectly, but you can look up the correct spelling and definition on your own

word "aphrodisiac" is exatly the same in my mother tongue (same is "lycanthropy"). Generally all words based in Latin are here the same . However I'm glad I have someone for conversation here, who wants to teach me something about language .

Oh yeah fyi.. you wouldn't say "Mother Tongue", that sounds kinda weird. I kind of took it literal. I was like your mom's tongue? what?

Better phrase may be, "Native Language".

words and 'special' terms: absolutely!
I will never use "mother tongue" again
spelling: Yes, yes, yes!
We have the same splelling and speaking in my my native language () so it's important practice writing, especialy doubled letters in words are horrible
speaking: of course not...
I know many new words from here, but I have never heard pronunciation... So this is (more-less) useless...
phrases (or my dictionaty found vocable 'collocations' for that.. what a word??!!! ): a lot!
I'm surpiced when are some words used... and what word is used... . really instructive

No one ever told me that my tence or "prepositives" (is that correct? I'm talking about 'of, at, in, on' words.) is bad... example, my sentence: 'I have that from ebay'... But many times I saw here 'I have that >>of>> ebay' so probably using 'of' is better... but... who knows?

forum here makes me think in English more fluent (more and more I don't need to look in dictionary for words), that's great. I have been here for 6 month and I feel my English is 10x better... (I hope ). I mean it's amazing practicing English and talk about cars at once . However, without some grammar knowledge it's nothing (because you never know that you wrote exactly what you want... and some kind of 'self-confidence' is gone)... so it's 75% practicing and 25% learning.

My take on this is that I don't care about grammer or typo on the forums. I do hate when people use all caps though. Grammer and typos do matter in the real world though because they are another factor people use to get an impression of you.
