DIY painting my doors, opinions needed. - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #39625 13 posts Started by brianforster
ok guys, i have black doors due to getting power windows from marks car and realizing its a huge pita to transfer them to my doors, i planned on getting the whole car painted this summer but funds are limited.

i want to paint the doors red myself, i figure that even if the shade doesnt match, it will look better than black, cause they stand out like a sore thumb..

does anyone have any ideas for a good rattle can that would make this look ok?

the other opinion i need is that do you guys think it would look worse with rattle canned red doors or real painted black doors..

i still plan on getting it painted just other things come first, and i really dont wanna bring the car up to school with a 3sgte engine and black doors frown.gif
Wrap them in CF.

check with your local automotive paint dealer. they may be able to prepare you a couple of spray bombs or shutz cans that are a perfect match.
brian, my local automotive paint place can make custom cans of paint.
basicly you go in and give them the paint code, and they can make you a rattle can of the color.
IIRC they run about 23$

how many cans do you think it would take to do my doors?
3 cans should cover it fine...

i think thats the place we got tina's paint for her rear bumper when i painted it they sell cans just give them the code
sweet. nice link.

should i sand first? basically i just want something to hold me over untill i can get a full paint job, and funds are kind of tight atm.
wetsand, primer, paint, clear coat, wet sand again, and buff.

lol then my doors would look better than my car!

anyways i need a bit of help guys, my doors are marks doors his car was red too stock but i dont know if it was same as mine, is there any way to find the paint code other than on teh door? because i threw my old doors out
3L2 is toyota red....search for "paint codes"

sand it with some 220grit then 400 then 800 then 1000 go ahead and primer, paint and clear
theres 3 shades of red though, how do i know which one mine is, i wanna be sure..
for a basic repaint no dent repairs , sand with 320 grit with a da sander , then seal , base , clear , wetsand if needed , and buff , , thats the way i was trained for 2 years in collision repair at college and its quiker then sanding to 1000 grit and with anything over 500 wetsanding you are really risking adhesion problems , thats my 2 cents
