Stock Spring Rate - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #39703 9 posts Started by Bigmeanbulldog55
I've aquired a set of stock springs from the front of a 95 2.7 liter Tacoma. I want to find out what the spring rate is of our stock springs and compare it to the spring rates in these things. I wouldn't mind a little stiffer right, but these springs look 2-3 times the size of stocks. I'm just gong to cut them to the same hight or maybe a little lower than stock, and try to install them. Oh, I picked up some 4 piston calipers while I was at it. That is my next project. So, how bad is increasing the spring rate going to be?

After I get the info on the spring rate of the truck springs, and the rate of the stocks, I'll post to compare.

That, I can fix. The spring rate is what I'm conserned about. Any one know what it is for a 94 GT?

The stock are something like 300 up front and 200 in the back. The truck springs are 450 I think. I will put them up front, and the ones off my front in the back. That is the plan now. If this works right, it will have cost me $0. It would normally cost someone about $10 to do, and a little bit of work. I'll get a camera to take pics and all that crap once I make sure everything is going to work.

I dont know why you care about spring rate, once the spring cut, the rate will just be way off it was before. actually its going to be stiffer, and your car will happily bounce around and blow shocks lol

So I need to keep with a softer spring? I thought that a stiffer spring would give me better performance. I was reading on Celicatech, and a guy was setting his Celica up for autoX and he said that 450 up front and 350 in back is ideal.

yes stiffer would be better, performance. But a good track car is a bad street car, etc...you find your comfort zone yourself!
