A rough sketch of the track I will be running. Finally a couple of my friends are going! EK Civic, RSX, Sunfire, and of course.. the usual me (celica), my brother -MRS, and Corolla

The Corolla, Sunfire, and Civic will all be in the same class (STS)
Me.. as usual.. the same class as them Cooper S kindasad.gif

Im building a in car camera mount right now. Hopefully I will have an in car and another video from the outside.

Its going to really hot. And theres thought of running nitrogen in my tires (they stay more constant with pressure) I just have to see till then laugh.gif

I deff like that corse, I'm not a huge fan of long slolums I perfer some straights mixed in, but most the corses I race are covered in slolums.

the coopers S's usualy do pretty good, gana be tought comp, same with miatas though. Good Luck! I would not worry to much about the civics or sunfires.

my last race had me up against an evo 8, evo 9, 350z, maxima, bmw 325 (i think 325,) civic si, and some acura. I did not do so good but what was cool was the diff between 3rd and 8th place was just under 1 sec, there were 12 cars in my group. I got 8th frown.gif(i'll scan my corse map if you wana see it.)

you do much better than me.. in this event theres about 12 Cooper S all in my class..

The sunfire is going to be cake.. o.O the civic not sure.. its their first event.. and this is my third, but first time in this area.

Only thing im worried is the scribble on the left.. its a big puddle about 5x5x3.. also known as Giligans Island
lol nice water makes if fun and evens up the comp, just coast though it you'll be fine, I would not even avoid it, if its in you path just skip on though, but thats me (probably better of going around if your not sure)

the civics are questionable, usualy there not the best, like resonably fixed up motors but cheapo susp. but there are a few, like my last race, out of no were that si took first, it was a total sleeper, was beat and sounded like rice but it deff had something that kept it in control.
well we have a H22 Civic, Supercharged Accord. their quick o.O

we do have a jdm civic that claims 160whp, quite sad.. lol I beat by 3 seconds in the last events

In this event.. we have "fun runs" 3 runs for 5 bux.. im doing 2 sets lol

holy hell, send me the video and i'll greatly reduce its size. hit me up on AIM

it was just a crap test vid lol..

I will need to reduce my future vids.. enlighten me how
the 'easiest' way would probably be just use Windows Movie Maker. you could probably get the video down into the 10 meg range. Or if you can get your hands on Dr.Divx you could do it like that. Anywho, with WMM, just click import file, and then click save to computer and pick the settin that fits you best (gotta play with it 2 see how small the file size will be)

cool stuff...

heres a vid of my MR2 autox'n. this event was at Waterford Hills (WHRRI), this was my worst event of the season as i finished 4th in class and 47th/200 overall. I still hold the ES class lead, but its much slimmed down now.

The video is my friend/codriver Alex driving, hes currently 3rd in the standings, and finished 2nd at this particular event.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsz46XcNRug

I havent had a chance to upload my runs yet. Note this is the fastest course we ran this year, lots of 3rd gear time and rev limiter bouncing.

the mount is the chasecam extension mount, the camera is a Canon SD630 running at 30FPS... obviously any quality the video had was killed by the youtube compression.

Squeal! dammit squeal!

understeer > me

when you understeer that bad turn the wheel LESS, not more and let off the gas, its a really hard thing to do, but your car will actually turn more with less input.

turn less with no gas then? Also my friend who autox his 01 rolla said do all your braking before a turn.. does that go together?
yes, it all deals with the same concept.

the short version:
your tires have a finite ammount of grip they can deliver (100% of available grip)

when you start asking them to do things (brake, turn, accelerate) they use a percentage of that available grip. in real basic novice concept you want to focus all 100% of the available grip on single tasks at a given time... you hit the braking zone... you want to use 100% of the tires to get you to slow down... you get into the turn, and you want to use 100% of the available grip to turn the vehicle.

when you get too deep and are using 80% of the available grip to get the car to slow down, THEN you try to use say 50% of the grip to get the car to turn... you are now at 130% available tire grip. voila! massive understeer. the concept of less steering + less throttle/brake input = more turning relies on the fact that you are now using less a percentage to turn, so as you unwind the wheel, the tire will start to get back closer to 100% and start to grip and make you actually turn again.

again this is a very basic/novice concept but works WONDERS for getting used to understeer/oversteer and braking... the other major contributor to this is slip angle, which is a little more advanced of a concept but deals with the same principals.

when you find yourself overshooting a turn, get the wheel back fairly straight and lessin the steering, once you feel grip return, back off the brake and turn in more, next time in that turn get the braking done sooner or do more of it.

Any suggestions in this track?

IPB Image

Im running it in 2 weeks they say its a reverse of a 70sec track
^ dang you get some good tracks. only advice i can say about it is take the corners wide at first then cut in sharp to line up the next obstical, and yeah break before the turn then coast and hit the gas pulling out of it, the fwd has an advantage because you can pull hard out of a turn and keep it in control, were rwd has a much harder time not pulling to hard and swinging the back end around a bit.

not too bad.. I got 53 out of 75 with PAX times. Im raising the camera upsome so you can see the cones as I go through em..

heres a vid of my friends Corolla
STS Corolla > GS Celica

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQUmpNwo0m4 same cam mount.. yet it looks better lol
yeah if the camera was a little higher and amed down just a bit, it would be sweet.
good thing to get in your frame for taking vids: hands and head, hands to show your steering input (too much, too jerky, too slow/fast etc..) and head to see where you're looking, look ahead, look WAAAAY ahead.

Yea.. hopefully I get that done lol.. Ill probably use the mini dv for the upcoming event.

What tire pressure are you guys running? with 205/50s I used 46font 36rear.. it felt like it was sticking and the tires were folding too badly, just right. I might run more in the rear like 46/39
on your bigger profile tires I would say 46 is high but should keep the sidewalls strong, 39 is a little low, try 45 all the way around, I run at like 42ish, but dont make it exact, just keep it a little over 40 on my tires. (toyo proxies 215/40)

and yeah, always be looking atleast 2 moves ahead, be planning your moves in as much advance as you can so you can better set your position and angle for them when you get there.
I always try thinking ahead.. but once the car starts moving that "thinking" disappears lol

hmm 2 cams then? lol
not necessarily 2 cams... if your camera is attached to the passanger seat (i assume by the view it is), push the seat back as far as possible and as high as possible, aim it at the windscreen with a buddy in the driverseat and fine tune it so you can see the back of his head and his hands. you should still be able to see a good amount of the track, keep it zoomed out all the way.

looks like a fun course, i love it when designers are obsessed with slaloms and constant radius/sweeping turns smile.gif

EDIT: ALSO REMEMBER!!! All my advice is speculative. take it all with a grain of salt. i run an ES MR2 with race rubber, my eyes are trained to read a course with my car in mind, your car WILL behave slightly differently so you may want to run a modified line off mine. ALSO REMEMBER my advice is based on an assumption of scale and distances, if in doubt, error on being smooth and balanced, modify your line each run as you figure out what sections run differently than the course map or the course walk. ALSO NOTE track conditions, error away from large and/or fresh oil spots and large puddles (esp. on race tires and around high grip maneuvers) that stuff gets on your tires and takes a little while to come off, if you go galloping through oil and water you will loose tiregrip for more than the time you are in/on the element.

The cam is being held by a straight bar conected to both headrest..

thats some in depth advice right there doo!
hmm... in that case you probably cant get the type of angle i am suggesting.

probably you can see part of my hand movement in the current setup

Damn. I cant find the pics I took.. there was a sick LS1 Miata and a Orange Elise (that actually raced!)
