can anybody tell me if its the bearrings.

your WHEEL may have play back and forth if the lugnuts are loose, make sure everything is tight. generally with a bad wheel BEARING you'll hear a bad growling/grinding sound for a long time before the wheel gets really loose and wobbly, but thats not always the case. remove the wheel and brake rotor and feel if the hub is wiggling like the wheel.

make sure the nuts you are using don't top out before get to the rim. sometimes you tight the nut but It's not in full contact with the wheel so you feel it loose. that happen to me and problem went away when I change the nuts.

well the lugnuts on tight. i also hear screching and a taping noise. i cant figure it out please help me out.

if your lugnuts are all tight (to torque specs) and you can move the wheel by grabbing the top and bottom edge and pulling/pushing, it's gonna be a balljoint. like bitter said, a bearing will be noisy. VERY noisy.

yea, definatly a balljoint can cause a wiggle. in the steering it can cause the steering to feel erratic since that one wheel is cambering back and forth.

A wheel bearing can have play and make absolutely no noise.
The noise comes from either the race being out of round or one or more of the bearings damaged.
If there is play, it's time to replace it though.

Look behind the wheel and see where it's wiggling at.
It could be the ball joint.
It could be the outer tie rod joint.
Could be the wheel bearing.

ball joints do NOT make wheels wobble back and forth...
ball joints connect the control arms to the steering knuckle, this does not cause the wheel to wobble...

if you jack up your car and with the lug nuts tight move you wheel in and out (grab the wheel at 9 and 3 and push in and out) if it moves your wheel (in relation to the steering knuckle) bearings ARE BAD....i've replaced 2 sets of bearings because of this
if you let it go on for too long it will destroy your hub too and you'll have to get a new one

Um, correction, no they wont, unless there about to go.. as in melt to the inner baring.. I have had a bad wheel baring for 1/2 a year, and didnt make any noise..

Its most likly the wheel baring. Take it to mr-tire and they will tell you. THEN Take it to a more reliable mechanic that wont rape you.

Check Tie rod end and balljoint... probably the tie rod end though

Oh yes they can.
They secure the knuckle/carrier to the A arm.
Through this the wheel is secured.
If there is play in the joint, the wheel will wobble.....
It can either have up and down OR side to side, or both.


There are 4 things holding the axle carrier/knuckle to the car.
The CV shaft via the nut [the wheel/hub is held to the carrier through the wheel bearing].
The outer tie rod joint.
The 2 bolts holding it to the strut.
The lower ball joint.

The cv shaft and 2 bolts will almost never be a problem. If they are, it is usually because one is loose, not broke.
ANY ONE of the other 3, if it is worn WILL allow play.

when i slid on ice into a curb and BROKE my balljoint and bent the control arm the wheel cambered back and forth wildly, the balljoint is the lower pivot for the wheel. it allows the wheel to camber + and - as well as turn in and out. camber on a single front wheel will pull the car back and forth, camber will pull towards the direction the top of the wheel points.

My driver's side wheel bearing went bad and was silent except it'd make a grinding noise when I turned at slow speeds, but the wheel would move back and forth a ton when we jacked it up. I just replaced the whole hub.

i can shake my wheel too. but only a lil. this is bad. i hope this is the answer. to my problem.

mine has the same weird problem, but mine doesnt vibrate or make ne noise!....

it just wiggles a little bit for some reason when i jack it up
