Edit: Photos By Coomer has been Renovated! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #40307 25 posts Started by Coomer
Over the past few weeks, I've been super busy. I went on vacation, then came back and since then I've been working out and working at my job a lot, taking lots of pictures, and hanging out with my family and friends. I've also been working on a new site. smile.gif

Photos By Coomer is my new photoblog, where I'll post photos every day or every few days or so.

As of now there are only a couple photos online since it just went live yesterday, but I'd appreciate it if you guys would check it out and let me know what you think. If you want to, you may comment on photos on the site as well. And if you like random photos, feel free to periodically check the site, as I'll constantly be updating it.

Let me know what you think. smile.gif

Oh, I've also decided that I'm going to try to work on 6G Celicas at least one night per week, for a few hours with no interruptions, so that I can get a lot of stuff done that I've been meaning to do. biggrin.gif

New Toyota project coming soon...
Looks cool. I would make the thumbs be the same as the entire picture rather than a cropped version.

QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
yeah I agree with the thumbnails. normally they are a smaller version of the full size picture so people will assume that yours are just a smaller version and theres a good chance they won't bother clicking on them to see the full pic. For example I wouldn't have clicked on a picture of your tail light to view the full size as its only a tail light, nowt special. BUT I would click on a small car against a landscape pic because its more intriging as to what the picture looks like.

just a comment mate, otherwise the layout seems ok.
is the top banner tilted slightly? i swear it is or my eyes are just messed up.
the site looks good! keep up the great work, i envy your photography skills

I liked the cropped version of the picture. It made me want to click the photo to see the rest of it. Then I had to click the rest of the photos because I was curious/interested.

overall I liked the site. The one thing I didn't like was that photos were listed under more than one category, i.e. I think just because your brother is in a photo of the landscape it doesn't mean that the photo should be listed under people as well. Just pick one category and stick to it smile.gif

^ definitly agreed. I think thats the only beef that i have with the site. Its perfect and an idea that i have been wanting to do for a long time but never got around to it.

It looks really good. And the pictures are amazing smile.gif
Looks good, and you've got a lot of talent for taking pictures. Every one of those in your new site is fantastic.
Slightly hard to navigate. Top banner kinda annoying how its crooked.

Suggestion: present all the categories on the front page. I noticed there were more categories as I went through the photos, but I was more stumbling upon photos instead of actually going to the ones I wanted to see.

Other than thats its good, simple is always best.

BTW: Using firefox & stumbleupon extension I found this great photographers website and if I can find it I'll send it to you so you can check it out, its one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City
really nice i can make a link on my site to your site if you want that
heres my critique from a graphic designer:
+ nice pics (use more black and color combo pics as title pics)
good colors (good black to color combo)
simple layout (i like simplicity)
- navigation (way to complicated, jumps around too much)
not enough pics! (need more variety)
top banner doesnt fit right and crooked (if meant to be than okay)
extra: since i noticed you like close up shots, use the fade effect as a background for the rest of the site and the main website is the focus....jus an idea.

Thanks for the suggestion Dustin. Most pictures blatantly fit more than one category though, like the Celica at sunset shot...I'd have to pick between automotive or sunset for that picture if I were going to limit myself to one category. And then say I filed it in automotive...when someone went to the sunset category, that photo would be missing, but it's clearly a photo taken at sunset. That's my reasoning for the multiple categories. smile.gif

On the main page, I didn't want to add too much information, and that's why I left the whole listing of categories off of it. At one point I actually had them all on the same page, but I thought it was too cluttered, so I moved them to their own page.

Thanks for your critique. I may work on simplifying the navigation. Maybe remove the categories that a photo is listed under, and move the "browse all categories" link to the bottom, and then also put a "previous" link on the page for the current photo.

Also, there aren't many pics because it's a photoblog and I put it online just the other day. Pretty soon there will be more photos. And the top banner is made to look cut off and crooked. That's what I was going for.

Can you elaborate on your fade effect as a background part? I'm not quite understanding that.

New Toyota project coming soon...
IPB Image

have the center the website as the faded part filled the white outside

this reminds me when you took a picture of your wallet and watch i think and the focus was so good, leaving the background a mere smudge!

Nice use of scriptaculous scripts. If the "comments" are loaded remotely, I congrat you on the successful AJAX website =)

The looks are cool, but yeah, navigation is rough, but I'm sure in time you'll get it sorted smile.gif

Today I finally got around to renovating the site, and it's kind of taking on a new additional focus as well. For details, you can check out http://www.ccoomer.com.

Also, if you have suggestions or comments, feel free to post them on either site (either replying here, or better yet, commenting on this post.)
