You know I just want solve one big mystery for me... I belive someone of you with GTs will find code like this: ST204L-BLPSKA => for me is that "ST" celica with 5SFE engine???... How is that possible? Is that one code for our "GT" and code ST204L-BLPGKA for GT-S?. Just late models of Celica has ST grade... (97-99) and none of them is labeled "GT-S"... that's what I know so far

EDIT: If anyone don't know where find "model number" post first 9 characters from jour VIN code. example = JT164ATL0, or JT2AN00L, or JT2ST07F... from this I can decode model number too... thanks.

SX, SX-R and ZR are all the same.
Its just that the options are difference between them.

SX - is the based model
SX-R - is like the SX, but with more options like fog lights, ZR alloys wheels etc. This model also has the white gauges. This is also known as the runout model.
ZR- Is the top of line model here in Australia.

GT-4 - There was only 77 Australian Delivered ones in 94.
These are the Group A Rallye WRC model.

I could be wrong but I don't think the USA got the GT-S.
I think it was Canada only. The USA was the GT.

AT200L-BLMSKW - the 'B' denotes Celica, the 'T' doesn't stand for Toyota - it is the Toyota code for the platform type - in our case the T denotes Celica or Carina.

BLPSKA and BLPGKA - the letter in italics denotes the trim level.

The last 2 letters signify the engine type and then the destination, so all US Gen6 Celicas are KA

I have an AT200R-BLMSKW so..........

Its an A series engined,T platformed,6th generation,1.8 litre engined,right hand drive,Celica, liftback,manual transmission,sports/normal trim, twin cam/EFI economy engine,european car

There are European, Canadian, US and Japan versions included (Just no Australian one, but thanks to CelicaZR I have info about them too) and there is written which model number belongs to GT model or ST model... and all ST models has third letter from back "S" in model number, all GT models has third letter from back "G". What a coincidence isn't it?... So please post that complete key for us from your source. Thanks.

If you take the 'S' grade to be the base model trim, then 'G' is the next level up.
It does get tricky here as I'm not up-to-speed on the US trim levels etc, so can only give UK specs as an example -

I have a UK spec ST - which is the base model and has a 7A-FE engine
The next grade up is the GT. As well as having a 3S-GE engine there are slight differences in the trim level.

So mine is categorised as an 'S' whereas the UK GT is a 'G'

To further complicate this, many of the trim level items were optional extras..........

I don't think the wording on the link helps either -

May I suugest it should say -

S = Sports car with standard trim
G = Sports car with higher grade than standard trim

Don't forget the trim level codes will cover a wide spectrum.

Am I correct in saying the US base spec 6 have rear drum brakes and manual window winders? The UK base spec 6 has disc brakes all round and electric windows as standard. This give an example of differences in base specification between countries.

You are correct... there are so many differences between USDM/CDM and EDM models (not talking about JDM or ADM neither)... And that is the mystery. I don't understand that USDM labeling at all! That's what I'm talking about all the time. Parts catalog say "something" and labeling there say "something different". Members from Canada and Australia already helped about this much (however I still would like to know model numer one of those 77 australian GT-fours . Here are just two or three ) but none of US members...

My little stone in your garden: second letter "T" stands for Japan as country of production.

The reason as to why you think that there are 2.2 5S-FE ST's in our market is because after the sales year 97 in the US, Toyota stripped the model lineup of model grade names completely, and ALL Celicas were then 5S-FE powered (and there were no GT coupes in 97). However, the interior trims of the old ST and GT still could be had (you had to have certain options in the car to get the "GT" grade seats and door trim). Also, many people don't realize that even though Toyota still put the GT badges on cars made after 97, not once will you see Toyota refer to any of the models as GT's. This is partialy why things get confusing.


This also may be a contributing factor, but I have a strong reason to belive that Toyota has certain models that exist "on paper", and my example to you is this- According to information that toyota provides, they produced 1996 GT coupes for the US. The problem is, you can't find ANY anywhere. I think that there is one member here who lists his car as a 96 GT coupe (in the US, remember), but he has no pics of the car, and if we could get the vin we could easily see if they really do exist. The proof that really convinces me that they never ended up being available is that in the 1996 factory brochure for the US, there is one pic of a GT coupe- It's Turquoise Pearl, and it has the new for 96 sideskirts on it. There are 2 problems though. First, the shot does not show any of the front of the car, so we don't see if it has the new style bumper. Second is it still has the old 94-95 style alloy wheels on it with the painted finnish- not the new style machine faced ones... All other shots of the alloys in the brochure have the machine finnish, and there is no distintion made in specs as to having the option of either finnish. this leads me to believe that it's a pre production model that never ended up being built on the assembly line. So yeah, hope that helps...

Afetr looking through the list you posted Malpaso- i've noticed a few holes that don't make sense either. First, I thought the canadian market never had coupes produced for them (someone correct me if i'm wrong ). Second, regarding the coupe production dates, I'm almost positive that coupes began production no sooner than 02/94... Third, you have no codes for liftbacks produced in model year 1999, and i'm also very sure that they exist...

I also have a car club that has had many 6th gens over the last 2-3years and this is what I have noticed:
GT - Always 2.2L 5S-FE Coupe or Liftback
ST - Always 1.8L 7A-FE Coupe or Liftback
Nothing - Always 1.8L 7A-FE [or debadged] with almost no options and many times spoilerless unless it is a 25th anny. edition.
Verts - Always 2.2L 5S-FE Coupe

just out of curiousity guys, what would be the equivalent model in the US compared to my 95 ZR in Australia? cause over here in my yr model i think we only have 2, one being the SX and the other being the ZR, i just want to do a comparison between the types

You're 5S right? I think you are the same as USDM GT and CSDM GTS. I think.
