i recirculated my bov. i used parts from the alltrac and mr2 intakes to make something that would work in my car. its a little long, and takes a bunch of bends, but it works very well.

the benefits of recirculating the bov are HUGE! i really love it.

pros:
faster spool up
no more back fireing
smoother power
1st gear feels totally awesome.
great throttle response

cons:
no cool bov sound.


highly recomended for anyone with a bov on a swap. its one of those things were you dont know what youve been missing untill you try it.

looks great. im not a fan of the BOV sound anyways.

Why did you route that pcv back into the intake?

thats awesome Art! Jay and Art, do you guys think that there is indeed a significant difference by recirulating the bov? Honestly i like the bov sound but i believe in performance over the ricey sound. Can you explain to me, what exactly happens when you recirculate it?

I have a BOV that recirculate 50% of the air on my WRX to get rid of most of these problems and still get the 'cool' sound. (actually, the ECU on '03+ WRXs figures out VTA BOVs pretty well)

If you have a car that meters air based on a speed-density system (MAP sensor) then a VTA BOV doesn't matter. (I LOVE the HKS valve on my ST205 motor! Lol)

I would say there is a benefit...not huge. The biggest thing for me was the end of the backfires and big black puffs of smoke out my tailpipe. Throttle response improvement? Yea, I noticed some....but then, again, throttle response has never really been a problem - maybe it would be if you are on the lowly ct26

i dont know if its the hks bov or not, but daily driving (not wot, just part throttle) from 1-3k would sound very hissy. its as if the bov would open a tiny bit if you wereent at WOT. also, on the highway, if you let off the gas slowly, the car would jerk a bit. now it dosnt do either of those. i would also get crazy hesitation when the car wasnt up to temp from 1-3k...though i havent had time to fully veryfy this, im pretty sure this will now also be gone, just based on how the car feels in 1st gear from the driving ive done.

i was just out for another drive. man the spool up is a million times better! before, i would give it a little gas, and have a moment of lag before the power came on. the way it is now, feels like there is almost no lag at all. just give it a tiny bit of gas, and you feel the power right away. similar to what you would expect from an NA car.

the turbo also sounded a lot louder before the recirc. this probably has something to do with the longer inake piping thats on there now tho.

Recirculating the blow off causes a temporary positive pressure on the intake side of the compressor turbine, allowing it to remain at RPM and lessening the acceleration time need once comes it under power from the exhaust again.

Unless you have the air directed at the intake you will see some but not a full efficient result.

The purpose of the blow off is to drop the intake side pressure peak that can cause the turbine wheels to spin backwards as the air is forced back out the compressor side of the turbo. This can cause the turbine wheel to become loose and cause major failure.

A necessary evil.
