Hey, i know that there is quite a few people that has or is attending college. Iam attending a community college and my teachers are prettygood except for one. But every time i get home and what i got to do, i always feel like iam missing something or iam behind. Has anyone ever felt like this? Any advice?

You should remember that college is VERY different from HS. The burden of learning the material is on you. A lot of times what you need wont be provided during lecture and its up to you to find it and learn it. If you dont get it, then you need to seek out help. this is what office hours are for. This is also why the prof probably gave you their email adress on the first day. If you are not getting the info through lecture, then ask them for a clarification or for some help. Every single prof ive had, even the ones that are bad lecturers, will always make time to answer your questions and help you out.

Yeah i've already had to email my Freshman English Teacher numerous times. Its more or less like when i come home and do the work or whatever i have to do i never feel like i completed everything i have do. I dont know its weird.

College may be very different from highschool, but i dont think community college is. At least not the ones around here. I took some classes at our community college during highschool, and the teachers there just kinda leave you feeling absent. I always felt like i didnt know if i had actually learned anything, and i would just read the chapters/material and pretty much teach myself. Now that im in a major university its totally different. The hardest part is balancing my social life with academics, and making sure i stay organized with due dates and etc. The best thing anyone can really tell you to do is just stick with it, stay organized and study, and with time you'll realize its not as hard as you make it out to be.

You sound like you got your sh*t together, you should be ok as long as you keep doing your work, reading, and keeping up your class attendance.

Too bad community colleges dont have dorms. Whats wrong with those posters anyway?

The only difference between the college I'm going to and HS are:

Less time spent in school
Small percentage of time spent on studying
Teachers don't ask a whole lot of questions
More essays
More ppl actually wanting to study
Teachers don't teach, more or less just stand in front of the class and lecture.

I go to a community college btw

oh and I really never see other class students walking the halls, the only ones I see are in my class -_-

OH, and FYI, i went to a real college (four year) graduated just shy of honors and did LESS work than hs

What real college, and what were your concentrations?

Yeah maybe schools vary, i havent really done anything EXTREMELY difficult and i havent had a lot of work so.

Community college can totally leave you feeling like this, especially the gen ed courses full of freshman...because a lot of time the professors don't really think that the students will "last long," that they're in community college because they weren't "good students" and wil lprobably drop out anyway.

It's total BS, I know, but it can be true.

Just do what most of the guy here have said: always attend class on time, so that the professor knows that your serious...this is mostly for small-class community college courses, not the 100-student-a-class universities. (I can't tell you how many freshman courses I got grades in where the only factor of grading seemed to be attendance). And do your best on your homework, e-mailing when your confused also shows that you care about your education, and the professors will appreciate that, or at least take it into consideration when grading you.

Yeah i learned that emailing the professor is A MUST. YEah iam not really worried about most of my classes arent hard, but the hard part is finding out what you gotta do lol. Mzztoyota did you go to comm college?

I go to a university that is the only form of college on this island...so it serves as a community college for locals and a university for those who continue past the associates degree, so my first two years were community-college-ish...now i'm in my 3rd year and I feel like there's more freedom and DEFINITELY more reading and writing and in general, WORK. ugh...tiring...

you'll be fine as long as you pay attention, write down your assignments WHEN THE PROFESSOR GIVES THEM and in a place where you won't forget it, and just do the best you can. If you miss something or mess up, try to figure out where the misunderstanding happened...did you forget to write it down? mishear him/her? or did they expect that you would understand what they meant without explaining everything they wanted? this way you know how to improve your situation and feel more comfortable when doing homework.
