What kinda of jack do you own? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #40971 24 posts Started by Digndoug
I need to buy a new jack. My brother and I are going to buy one togeather to split the cost. I need on that will fit under my car and will last. Im looking for an light wight aluminum jack, race style. I looked at the craftsman and there reviews say that it wont last.

Any ideas? Thanks
funny thing about my jack...

My passenger quarter window wouldn't go down all the way. I figured it was off the track. The other day, with the top down, I looked down inside and saw the original jack down there. Aparrently the original owner had just shoved it into the mounting position in the side of the trunk and it acutally made it all the way up over the wheel well!

I know, hijacking the thread here, but needed to tell this story!

I have a $20 2 ton jack from BJ's my wife bought me 4 years ago that still works fine.

Spend $100 on the real deal. I did and it was worth every penny. It's one of the 3 1/2 ton floor jacks with 4 wheels. The same kind that they use at shops. Very reliable and durable, it can move a little bit without you getting worried.

edit: Just remember to always use jack stands when working under a car.

When my brother in law worked for Sears my father bought a Craftsman 4000 lb. Capacity Aluminum Jack. It creaked with every stroke and the handle flexed. It required more arm pressure to lift the car. If your interested in getting the car in the air fast I'd look somewhere else. I do not recommend this racing style jack. It can lift the car quickly but it does seem to be built to last. This Craftman aluminum junk wink.gif was returned for a refund.

i have like... a cheapass set of motomaster 2 1/4ton trolley jack with 2 jack stands... but they weren't cheap... like $70CAD and i think it was really not worth it... should've got the michelin ones... they seem better quality... but i don't work on my car that much... so i guess it's ok for my needs... altho after lowering my car... the thing just barely clears the bottom...

Any other brand wise to look into? I need somthing around 3 1/2"+ .... The craftsman sounds like there junk. I am will to spend up to $250 and I have a few jack stand already.
hey, if you do get a craftsman jack and it starts to seem like its not lifting as high or as well as it used to, theres a good chance than its leaked some of its oil out. you can top it off with ATF and it'll be as good or better than new.

They're actually pretty good. And very low

Dude I almost had you
I was looking into buying a floor jack a few weeks back. A few of the guys I work with suggested Harbor Freight jacks as one of the few tools they would consider buying.

It definitely is one of they few things I'd consider buying from them. It's not too expensive, It's low profile, it's actually pretty lightweight, and I know a few guys who have used them for years without issues

Dude I almost had you
Trade Pro 1 1/2 ton & Black Jack 3 ton.
The 3 ton is about 1 inch from the ground, lifts to 14-15 inches.
The 1 1/2 ton is about 3 inches from the ground & lifts to 14 inches.
Blackjack and OEM Toyota scissor jack.

Get it up, put it on stands, all I need.

Lol. I had to bring it back. I'm tired of driving up a 2x4 just to be able to jack my car up.

You have a point there. At least the scissor jacks are cheaper and lasts forever. Just hate having to spin it. Lol.
