Eastern iam glad you mentioned something about this... I've Pmed DR.Tweak and DG_Performance about doing something like this but nobody seems really interested. IMO i would take AWD over a Swap. BEcause you could sooner or later get the swap. And to me our cars would be better suited to handle the power of the 3s with AWD. LESS TRACTION ISSUES

AWD = MUCHO DINERO and LOTS of CUSTOM FAB

celiman05's father is a custom fab by trade. AWD is not/shouldnt be attempted by any average swapper

OH yeah man i agree with you a 100%. Thats why i asked DG or Tweak. Hopefully someone else will try this out again soon.

hmmm i remember him posting a thread about it, dont think he did a how to. u know, i will ask tweak what he thinks about it when i see him friday. im just curious about the power distribution, how it handles/launches, and how much it cost him (i know...i know...im nosey) rolleyes.gif

not really homes.... I could prolly... take a regular celica...st/gt get a clip and get it done for hrmmmmm well it would really be in the testing waters to be honest. I have always wanted to try it. But I am not that daring.

Figuring a clip would only cost a little less than 2k now and you get a awd e153.. .fitting it in a 6gc isnt a problem. So I would have the whole front part worked out.

Now theres already enough room for a driveshaft. I could get one made for $200. and from there I would have to find a rear end from a alltrac... suspension rear end everything... along with making a fuel cell in the trunk. I dont think it would be that hard. I am not really good with fabricating. But my friend who owns a shop where I do all my work out of Im almost 90% he would be up for trying it. Its the same shop where I did my e153 swap / 3sgte swap. If anyone is really interested in trying a awd swap send me over a pm.

BANNED!
Celiman05 sold it. I remeber reading a thread when he explained that he had a choice betwwen keeping the Celica or keeping his Supra and of course, he kept his Supra instead.
idk man...pull up the thread, then ill believe it.

guy who sold awd celica lived in denver area .. celiman05 lives on eastcoast ..

if you really want to do a awd then all this half ass talk is a waste of money .. like i said a million times call a importer and get a roof cut celica with all the floor intact and then do the swap using rear floor pan ..

you can get a whole car for 4-6k ..

the celica chassis is same (st202-205) from front of rear seats forward in every car. The big buldge on pass floor is for exhaust on st205 but every car has it .. the driveshaft mounts are already there on chassis

it may seem like a lot but if i didnt already own a st205 then i only way i would do a awd 6th gen is using a roof cut ..

there is just so much you dont realize that is diff in rear that is used to strengthen chassis for awd ..

not trying to say dont do it but just way cheaper and safer with correct parts .. less things half assed or modded to fit the better .. just something to think about ..

Well where is a good place to find a gt-4 car? Because i've only HERD of this never seen it. And if i imported the car i would just repair it.

so how u gonna get a title thats not labeled as "salvage"?

lots of tape to cut, its not easy importing

KawiLove
yeah, i think the only "legal" way to drive a gt-four in the states is to get all the parts and put them on your 6gc. not many people have done it, but its do-able.

ss-iii splitters and 404 skirts areon. which means i need to update my sig.
laugh.gif wtf do you guys think Dan is doing?? laugh.gif

Teh Celica sleeps for Winter '06. Suspension overhaul begins........
i wonder with the correct jdm part numbers (ie. rear floor pan, gas tank, and all other bits.), if a dealer would be able to import them like say.. toyotaworld? considering of course you already have a whole front clip (if you don't already have the engine/tranny/axles). though you'd still have to find a source who will supply the entire rear differential and drivetrain if it doesn't come with the halfcut.

would you also need to swap the front for superstrut suspension too? i think that's what the other guy did (the one who sold his black swapped 6th gen for his supra)

anyway.. it'll surely be a hell of a tough/long job finding and sourcing jdm parts and labor. might as well wait 2-3 years and buy a whole gt4 and sell my current one. only problem is RHD...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well you say RHD but i thought AUSIE celicas were LHD, and some other countries has Left hand drive? Not sure though? Iam kind of confused about how thats gonna work, how are people gonna aquire those celicas? And can you buy a celica in canada and legalize it in the states?

I know this has been covered plenty of times just curious.

I'am Reinventing the SLow Lane.....
there are a few people who have done this, not just one.

there's lots of custom work, measuring, PRECISION involved in such a thing. you've gotta keep the frame straight, cut out the rear, weld in new floor pan, use a custom fuel cell, etc...

by the time you're done with it, you may as well have bought an eclipse GSX, an older impreza, or something that came with AWD stock. one member here who had done the AWD swap complained that the thing constantly pulled to the left at high speeds - doesn't sound too safe to me.
wow that would really defeat the purpose for me considering one of the reason i would get is to contain the torque steer of the 3s, but that sounds like the same problem.

neverstop complained about unstable but never proved he did it...

although precision isn't exactly rocket science it is a bitch and a half to take on such a project
isnt it convienent that someone put an AWD post from way back up? biggrin.gif

There are at Least 2 conversions driving around now in the US.
(A few actual ST205's as well. )

There was a Black conversion done in Hollywood, FL by an parts importer, Farley.
It was for sale on Ebay. Kostas bought it unseen and shipped it to CO.

~Kostas wanted $$ for an investment locally, he could keep One Fast toy.
The Supra won.
