help. pads getting stuck - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #41397 8 posts Started by ghostdog
I hate to only post problems but I need some help on this. the front-right brake pad seem to be getting stuck. I took it apart and it looked like the bracket that the pad fits into was slipping around, thereby getting the pad caught at an angle. so I replaced all the brackets but the pad still doesn't slide freely. its like the pad is too wide to fit in the slot, I don't know how else to explain it. so naturally I figured I'll grind the pad down, and now it slides but still gets stuck after some use. I've taken the damn thing apart 4 or 5 times and its really starting to irritate me. I'm contemplating covering the car in gasoline and throwing a match under it.

so I guess my question is. anyone had this problem? what exactly is happening because I can't understand how the pad slides properly for 2 years and now its too wide to fit in the slot? seems like the only solution is to buy a new caliper ... help me retain (whats left of) my sanity please.

yea ghost, i had that problem too , it gets super hot also .. and you can acctually feel the car is slower.. i replaced the caliper, it was frozenn.. kindasad.gif

drivers side if it matters..
could be a frozen caliper piston or a frozen caliper slide.

which pads are u guys upgrading to?

my back right is the same way

i just ignore it...im tired of working on it
i had the same problem too.. my calipers were binding so hard that when i stopped and got out of the car, it smelt like burned rubber or something strong like that and smoke would be coming out from the rim. my rim would feel so hot as if it were on fire.
so i just sprayed the inside of the piston with white grease and WD40 and all is back to normal. the piston tends to cease up every now and then.. but if this keeps happening, you'll probably need a new caliper.

makes me feel a lot better that its happened to other ppl. damn, I should come here more often cause ya'll are awesome .. but anyways, the rotor and rim obviously get really hot. I'm guessing thats going to cause warping if I continue to drive like that right?

so is the piston seizing up causing this? if I'm replacing stuff I should buy the whole thing right? thanks
