just wondering, anyone here hmong? I know alot of hmong people drive toyotas, especially camry, corolla, and celica. i know the majority of hmong people are in minnesota, wisconsin, and california. some other main states they reside are north/south carolina, wisconsin, arkansas, missouri, michigan, colorado, rhode island, mass., florida, and washington. so just wondering if there's any hmong people on this website. i thought it would be kool to meet hmongs from all across the USA! and maybe from the world? i know there's also a lot of hmong people in china (where we once called home!) and france! holla

Not alot of people know what Hmong is. Hmong is a ethnicity just like Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. Except our cultures go way back even before the Chinese. We are very common in some states and areas. The most popular ones are Fresno, California and Minneapolis, Minnesota. We are so common on those locations that people don't even ask us if we are chinese or japanese. They just ask, "Hey, are you hmong?"

uh, hmong?
so.. hows that pronounced..?
It's pronounciation is kinda hard to get use to for first time sayers.
It's pronounced: Hm-oe-ng
You have to say that Hm sound kinda fast and into the o and ng.

I say it's pronounced "mong".. the H is silent.

No, the H isn't silenced. You are saying it the "lazy" way and usually the people who don't know how to say it right pronounces it that way. The letter o isn't a "awh" sound. It's a "oe" sound like Joe. And yes, you do pronounce the Hm sound which is pronounced exactly like the way it is spelled. If you say Mong as in M-awh-ng, people are gonna say, "Huh? Mongolian?" which isn't right. It's Hmong, Hm-oe-ng.

holy crap you people don't know what hmongs are?

LoL, I see what you're saying. Hm-oe-ng is how Hmong folks say it, which is technically correct. Mong is how everyone else says it 'cause it's easy. Depending on who I'm talking to, I use both.

I saw a couple of users on here that are hmong. But they haven't been on like forever. So... I guess this is it... most Hmong people don't even own Celicas. They either own Hondas (Civic, Accord, Prelude, S2000) or Toyotas (Corolla, Camry). Eh, if they were to own a Celica, it would be the 2000+.

trust me, here in mn it's a different story. many drive 5th and 6th gens. rarely see them driving 7th gens - most you see would be hmong girls driving it. YES camry and corollas are still the tops. young teens who cant afford cars buy civics so they can "soup" it up. hahaha cheap. but yeah.
>
Well... I've been in Minnesota only one time and that was July 4th Hmong New Year Tournament. I saw alot of EVOs and Supras. But that was 3 years ago. Hahahaha. I've never been back since. Since there are that many people driving those cars, how come you never promote the website to them?

i do. i have several buddies who drive 240sx and and civics who check this website out occasionally..they really love the celica look and all but they say they can't afford one?!?!?!?!? i dont know but i know a lot of people love celicas but they'd rather go the cheap route and quickly mod their car..me i have to wait years to get what i want for my celica..hehe but its kool. where in florida are you from anyways? i've never been down there but i do have relatives in jacksonville.

I live in Altamonte Springs, FL. Like a block away from the Altamonte Mall and I-4 bridge. I use to live in Downtown Orlando but I moved recently. Jacksonville? I've never heard of Hmong people being in Jacksonville. Most of them reside in Wachula and most of them hmong "thugs" are already tearing that place up. Supposably, the rumors went around saying that they moved here from Minnesota and California and they trying to claim their territory or some shiz? I don't know but them dumb a$$es need to stop cuz supposably Florida is a place to retire. But yeah, I'm from O-town.
>
I didn't know that. Is that for real? I've never heard the word hmong used in that way when speaking it. Usually hmong is referred to our people only. Hmmm. That's interesting.
