this is probably what happens to our clips before we buy them - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #41500 27 posts Started by lagos
WTF? Why is he doing that?

Converted JDM '98 GT-Four to LHD, check my site:Celica GT.nl
"this is probably what happens to our clips before we buy them, vid"

Lagos, this title wil surely discourage soon-to-be-swapped celica owners laugh.gif

but the guy in the video is definitely an idiot.

And what are the 2 leds in his tach? that TVSV thing you had posted a little bit ago ??

I see you have applied "what doesnt kill it only makes it stronger" phrase to your engine... and its cheaper than forged rebuild !! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Havent seen anything more stupid lately.Poor engine.

mad.gif
i think the lights he has are tvsv leds. so at least he was smart enough to do that.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
oh ya! tvsv leds.... kindasad.gif
i dun get it.
i think he did that just to hear his own exhaust. almost 3mins of it though. i couldn't stand to watch 30sec.

THE STUFFS FOR SALE!
Man that was terrible mad.gif Totaly pointless...

Although its not a big surprise that our JDM motors get battered by the previous owner. When i watch the JDM Option drift videos, i think to myself 'man, some teenage kid here in cali is gonna pay big money to have one of those motors that have seen the rev limiter a million times' frown.gif makes me wonder about mine

edit: poor grammar

i dont see why you guys are so worked up over this video.. Engines are designed to rev all the way up to redline. Reving it like that should not damage the engine at all. I'm not saying it is good for the motor. but it should not be a big deal.

That's offically the funniest thing I've ever heard on 6gc.net.
Big suprise the check engine light is on..... what year celica is that?
You think that is bad for the engine? Rev'n it like that? How many of you swapped guys DRIVE IT like that? Aww come on now.. don't be afraid to put your hands up. If you don't drive it like (occasionally) that you are just hurting it in the long run.

This is also the reason I rebuilt my 3s before I swapped it in... no idea how it was before I got it and I wasn't taking chances.

87 4runner DLX 22re, 5spd, 4.30gr, 4" lift, 30" tires, HID w/ Projectors, 6spkr + sub, custom exhaust, 94 celica leather seats, SR5 gauge cluster and clinometer. Future engine swap... possibly a 2jzge.
thats nothing. my neighbor had a 96 impreza. it sounded great when his son would go and just set on the pedal and just hear it just bouncing on the rev limiter for 30 min. but that was only on saturday morning. he only had for a few months till it started to knock bad… but also that kids dad would always race everybody in the damn thing so that didnt help either.

It is designed to do that UNDER LOAD. Free rev'ing will kill a motor pretty fast. It'd be cool if the dude was on the street (or track! biggrin.gif ) doing that - but in the garage is just stupid. Most new cars have significanly lower rev limits when the car isn't moving/under load for just that reason (like 4500rpm on a 7000rpm capable motor).

2003 Subaru WRX Wagon1989 Camry Alltrac LE 3S-GTE - SV25/ST205 hybrid1988 Camry Alltrac LE - BEAMS swap started
^That makes sense...because in my Grand Am, unless your moving at over 6mph it will not let you rev up over 4,000 RPMS. Never really understood why, I thought it was just a dumb rev limiter but now that you say that it makes sense.

A dumb economy light and shift (or power/WOT) ?
Not really useful, but they came stock on GT4 in Europe.
Definitely Not the TVIS indicators. That would be a DIY mod.

awww that poor engine.... frown.gif after the first minute, when he drops back below a couple thousand you can hear the engine dying.... stupid ****in bastard, i'd kick his ass if i had the chance. i mean, i've sat a few times and taken my parents '98 camry w/5sfe to say... 4k as kind of a joke w/some friends, but NOT like that, it was like twice, and it never even got close to the rev limiter. the bastard...

Exactly.
Revving an engine under no load [or on start up] is asking to spin a bearing...
Oil pressure can't keep up for one thing....
