Shop review - Southern Car Customs/Dr. Tweak - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #41596 8 posts Started by Velliety
Okay, so I know that Dr. Tweak is highly respected here on this board, but I wanted to share my experience with him and Southern Car Customs today. I took the Celi down to Savannah today (about 3 hours from my place). I dropped the car off for Dr. Tweak to install new springs (Eibach Pro-kit) and some KYB Gr-2 struts, and to see what he thought about turbo-ing the Celi.
This place is class-act all the way. Everyone there was incredibly professional, the work was impeccable, and the pricing was very reasonable. And I felt like these guys were honest and really cared about doing the job right. Plus, I got to spend the day at the beach while my Celi was being taken care of!
Here's my car on the lift:

The Celi drives like new with the new parts. I can't believe how tight it is!
Two thumbs up from me for SCC and Dr. Tweak - we're going to do the turbo in January, can't wait.
Took this at the gas station on the way home!

if you don't mind me asking, how much ? was an alignment included ? did you buy the parts and bring them ?

also, looks great, nice wheels thumbsup.gif

my st205 swapandour Beams swap
did he throw in an alignment for free?
Doc Tweak should give you a discount if you mention you're from 6gc, eh doc? good idea eh? biggrin.gif

oh yeah, and the professional class-act is always nice to have, there's a shop around here like that, when i brought my car for an estimate, they actually sat down with me, explained everything in a nice and formal manner, told me the truth, no bs. That's how it should be done! no ripping off anyone, nada!

doc tweak is the man!

btw: do i spot a c5 vette beside you? 0h sn0pz
He didn't throw in an alignment - but there's a little more to the story. I was late getting the car down there to him (don't listen to friends who tell you that it takes "about" two hours to get anywhere), and he was really great about getting it in and out the same day, even with me getting down there late. He found a bad CV joint while he was in there, and had it rebuilt for me that day. He also took the rear rotors to get turned and had to wait for those. I felt bad that he didn't get done with the car until about 7pm becasue of the xtra work. So really, there wasn't even time for the alignment anyway.
I didn't buy the parts myself, the shop got them for me. It ran about $800 for the springs/struts including parts and install. I could have got it a bit cheaper here in town, but I didn't want to take a chance on a bad install of suspension parts - too much risk - I don't want to get killed because of a squirrely install.
nice spoiler
