Running and Idling! Swap almost done - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #42036 17 posts Started by jcbass7
After a couple of months of issues, the 3SGTE in my black hatch is finally running.. well let me put it this way, it starts on command now!

But here are my new set of concerns/issues...

she runs really rough at idle and stalls pretty quickly..

however, if i hold the pedal to about 1200 or above then i can get her to idle and stay relativly smooth.

ps:(no exhaust is hooked up at the moment, just downpipe and thats it)

any ideas anyone?

Edit: Update she runs and idles now! more down below

Cuz Thats How Us Country Boyz RollGrowing up racing motocross, i learned one thing..."Always wear clean underwear, you never know when the Paramedics are gonna have to cut your pants off of you"
congrads.. . you probably have a vac leak

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
make sure the MAF sensor and all the piping attached to it is leak free.
also make sure the plug pluggin into it has 4 pins that arent rusted or pushed in.

Visit My Automotive & Tech Blog.
my car did the same thing when i had a huge vac leak, there are 2 nipples on the back of the intake manifold, since i did not pull my motor from a clip i just had the motor, i did not notice these back 2 nipples, one was plugged, and one was open, this caused my car not to idle at all, i had to keep on the gas to keep it running, and it sounded terrible while running, so id look around for a big vac leak.
sounds like a plan ill get back to you guys once ive checked all the vac lines
All you had to do was switch those two plugs, huh? I figured smile.gif

As said, check for vacuum leaks, and make sure the hose coming from the IAC valve is connected to the intake after the AFM.

Give me the run down on this boost leak tester..?
The next time i get to work on the car won't be for another two weeks, but I'm definatly going to try to get it down to newport ASAP, so you and dustin will be close by to help biggrin.gif

PS: on my way back to gloucester last night i took a wrong turn off 24 and got lost in your neck of the woods lol, i was looking out for the beast, but i found 24 again before i got too lost in fall river laugh.gif
bump,

Manny what is a book leak tester?
im retarded, thanks manny
i'm not home so i cant measure this right now, but what is the turbo inlet size for the ct-26?

I'm gonna do the vac leak testing tommorrow morning smile.gif
ok since i only get to go home every other weekend or what not it took me about a month to put a worm clamp on something and replace a small hose!! woot.gif

but now she runs and idles fine. She actually runs great!

I just need to put the axles back in as well as put all of the brakes on.

I'm pumped! I might get to test her on the road as soon as next weekend!

Thanks for all the help so far biggrin.gif tongue.gif biggrin.gif
