haha, I was going to do this when I had some free time... which would be never 
first you need a dual filament bulb. then you need to find the green/yellow wire going to your turn signal light and splice in a wire (do not cut it, make a T connection). then go to your side marker and cut the solid green wire. connect the wire you just spliced from the turn signal to the green wire you just cut coming from the side marker. that should make it stay off then come on in sync with your blinker.
if that wasn't really clear I can try and make a little diagram to explain it better if you really want me to. keep in mind I havn't tried it yet so I'm not entirely sure it works.

pretty simple really. there are 3 wires on the turn signal. one ground (-) and two green (+) wires. one of the green wires is for the turn signal (blinks on and off) while the other is the parking light.
the sidemarker light has only two wires, (+ and -). so keep the negative on the sidemarker connected, but wire up the positive wire of the sidemarker to the green turnsignal wire of the turn signal.
this may require you to loosen the front and top bolts of the fenders to have room to work in.

Steff, while that may work, the best bet is to use a SPDT relay. 
Terminal 30 would go to a fused +12 volt power wire, 87 would go to the positive wires on the sidemarkers (which you'd cut,) 85 would go to ground and 86 would splice into the green/black wire that goes to the turn signal on the left side, or the green/yellow wire that goes to the turn signal on the right side.
And they don't make dual filament 194 bulbs for the sidemarkers by the way.

I figured there must be a dual filament bulb of some sort that will fit into the same socket as the 194, but I am not sure
edit: thanks Coomer, thats a much more professional way of going about it. I was taking the "bored one day and want to try something new but I'll probably end up messing up the car" approach to the project

Is there a way to make the sidemarkers alternate with the turn signals? So if the turn signal comes on the sidemarker goes off, then the turn goes off and the sidemarker comes on? Is there any sort of a "delayed relay" that would do this?

With that wiring setup, your sidemarkers would turn on when your parking lights turn on, but when the turn signal blinks, they'd turn off. They'd stay off all the time if the parking lights aren't on.

If they are hooked upto your sidelights then make sure the indicators don't also flash your back and front sidelights too. (if you have them on US cars that is)
A mate of mine had a filament go on his rear sidelight (dual filament bulb) that fell across and touched the filament of his brake light so when he was braking he was also flashing his headlights haha, he wondered why people kept pulling out in front of him.
