Is a 3sgte head on a 5sfe block worth it??
Or will it be better if you just swap the 3sgte in it??
And if it is worth it, any modifications??

Putting a 3s-gte head on a 5s-fe block is like doing a 3s-gte swap (you have to use a 3s-gte ECU) AND a bunch of extra work. Search here and on MR2OC for a bunch of threads on what is required.

ok..... let me see if i get this straight....its a lot more work doing this than just doing the swap? but its the same thing performance wise and are you wasting less money by doing this process of the 3sgte head on the 5sfe block?

I was just wondering which would be better, thats all.
A 2.0 liter turbo or a 2.2 liter.
Just trying to get feedback.

That's what it takes to get the head attached to the block. Some early Camry blocks can even be mated to a 3s-gte head with no mods to the water ports...

Once that is done - what are you doing for oil cooling? What are you doing for electronics to run the motor? What about tuning? What internals are you going to use? What about oil and water for the turbo? Flywheel/clutch? There are TONS of little things to do that you have no idea about at this point, obviously.

You can also just put the turbo and manifold from a 3s-gte on your celica and use that as a base for a turbo kit for your 5s-fe... maybe that's what you were thinking in your original post?

yeah........ you're right, didn't think about all that. i was just thinking about the 2.0 vs 2.2. i guess the 3sgte would be a whole hell of alot better.

with the same tranny i have noticed a diffrence between a 5sfte and a 3sgte. the most noticable is that the rpm range where the power is at is way diffrent. before my 5sfte use to poop out at n e thing over 5500 rpm. Now with the 3sgte i find that i have to retune my ears in on when to shift as it has a much diffrent power band.

ive also notice that the turbo on the 3s as less noticable then on the 5s whether this is just because of the displacement or because of the type of engine i cant say for sure but it may be both.

ok here it go, i did this swap its not to hard but if you want to bolt up the head & think it gonna work its not. This is how i did it cut the 5s crank to fit the 3s rods, .60 over 5s pistons,you can use the 3s head with oyt drilling antthing-BUT you need to cut the headlike this if you do that you can use a 5s head gasket... im gonna build another motor with a full 5s bottom & a stock 3s head just to see how much it can take...

I had a RUNNING 5sgte up untill about 3 weeks ago..

The build is not as hard as it sounds but if your gonna do it, do it right the first time.. Get things like oil and water pumps new, new bearings gaskets, belts. The most important thing is engine management. Its a problem im having now. The other problem in doing it right is the $$$. I went a little crazy on parts i think but who cares...

My advice to you would be to set a HP goal and go from there.. My goal is to be in the 700HP area.. Sounds crazy but thats what i want..

just my opinion... but an additional .2 liters isn't worth it unless you got some BIG BIG power goals and you can afford a build...

thats true if your not ready to go race car fast drop a stock 3s-GTE you will have alot of fun
