ive tried molding the lip that i have (pics in profile) which was cut in half due to HK's shippign restrictions.....everytime i try to flip it over to do the bottom side it splits open!!!....

first, ive applied fiberglass resin jelly w/hardener on the front of the gap...then applied fiberglass cloth in the back with some resin to reinforce the front..BUT when i try to do the bottom of the lip its breaks on me.....ive tried it liek 4 times and its doin the same thign......ive let it sit for 4 hours and still its breakin apart everytime i try to do the bottom.....any1 know whats teh trick to doin this?.....ill upload soem pics when its brioghter outside...
How many layers of Fiberglass are you using? Sounds like you're just putting 1 layer on.
run like 2 layers of cloth, let it cure in place over night, then flip her.

b4 i try to layer it up...do i put the cloth on the front or the back of the lip?>......plz forgive me, its my first time dealing with fiberglass repairs.......
well im sure not everyone will give you the same answer due to preference of work. the best way to do this is to glass the back side of the lip and make the gap as small as possible then fill the gap in with resin and hardener.

BUT the better/right? way to do it would be sand down the face of the lip up to 1.5" on each side of the split, this way the lip has a low spot in the middle where the gap would be so then you glass the back like before and then build up the low spot with new glass combining the two pieces. this will make for the best flush face and strongest joint. However if you are using the jelly not the liquid resin make sure your glass has big enough holes in it to fill in with the resin or it just wont take.

hope that gets ya started

do what celica3gste said. Use fiberglass Matte sheets they are much better. Because no matter how many layers of cat hair you put on the tensil strength is not enough to hold.

let us all know how it goes.. Goood luck!
