once again, what supra are we talking about, you should be able to take a sock one with a swap and basic bolt ons, only like 250-300whp... high hp on street cars are nothing but dyno and highway queens, because even on rwd, 1000hp is stupid. now stop with the assonine questions...
Celica Faster then supra - 6G Celicas Forums
I think 300hp on a 5s would be doable. you'd probably need to get some forged internals, and then a real big turbo, and a complete fuel and ignition system, then get it properly tuned... I think you could do it. it would probably be cheaper to swap a 3s and do some mods to that to make it 300 hp though.

a gazillion hp can come out of the 5s with $$$ nothing more too it.
you can also get awd for some more $$$, (ps awd conversions have been done)
so yeah its basically depends on how deep your wallet is.

ok 5grand to get me 300hp or more what all parts do i need dont add in labor i got that down let me know
If you really know what you're doing, I bet you could get 400hp out of a 5sfe for around 10-15k. Maybe less, or closer to 10k. Then a limited slip or locking differenctial would stop or at least help wheel spin. It's easy to type that. lol
>
So, you have experiance with swapping motors? That's a good bit of work and tuning to get 300hp even from a 3sgte. Seems to me, if you really have to ask if you can beat a Supra with a 5sfe Celica, you don't have the know-how to do this kind of work. So, I think you better start thinking about labor. This is all just a freaking joke anyway. You're not going to do anything.

and because 1000hp supra's are a joke. Sure its nice to put up those kinds of numbers, but actually racing them...
If both Tufy and the Supra had 600hp it would have been a much closer race

not even close. please read. for 10 grand you might be able to convert your fwd to awd. the only reason tufy can beat a 1000 hp supra with only 600 hp is cuz of better traction off the line due to awd. video. or for 10 grand you can swap in a 3s and mod the ish out of it and possibly reach 400 hp. but like everyone said, that much hp on a fwd car isn't the best idea. the easiest way to beat a supra without spending crazy amounts of money.... autox.

If you absolutely love your Celica, like most people on this site, just focus on making your celica faster. That way you can put down as much money as you're willing to, and get it nice and fast compared to civics, eclipses, etc.
If all you care about is making your celica "faster than a supra", let me give you some advice. Sell the thing and just buy a supra, cause in the end it'll be cheaper...
PS: that JZ pic is freaking hilarious. =] I showed it to my non-car-enthusiastic friend but she didn't get it...lol....no big surprise there.

with 5 grand you can turbo charge your stock motor. But you will probably only get 250 hp.
I dont know the exact cost of a 3sgte motor swap will cost, but its around 5-7 grand, but with this option you can easily go past the 300 hp marker.

Tufy's has has 600bhp.. which is to the wheels... True? AWD hasa large amount of power loss from the crank to wheels... I've read up to 20%... So now I"m actually curious on Tufy's crank hp... anyone?
>
isn't it
bhp = crank
whp = wheels
?
so expressing tuffy's #s as bhp isn't probably true
so tuffy is probably near 750 bhp if he's 600whp

guys.. the dyno i have been was a rolling dyno.. that means power is measures as whp then calculated to hp.. i have arround 500 whp@1.5 bars which means 600-650.. only limit for me is block.. i know 3sgte's running over 700 bhp but i wanna be save and here is where i stop..

You didn't specify what generation Supra you're trying to beat, so as long as you race a stock '81 Supra you'll be fine. Heck, you won't even need to alter your stock 5SFE! The MKI had a 2.8L V6 that only put out 116bhp, so the trick here isn't to improve your Celica, but to lower your standards! The end.

I was actually thinking today, what if the 5s could reach 400hp? I mean there's alot of internals parts out there that I've never really seen anybody with. if you did forged pistons and rods, metal head gasket, a really good turbo set-up (as in, not a ct-26), cams, port and polish the head, and a good fuel and ignition set-up, then could the 5sfe reliably make like 350-400 hp? I mean, it's made close to 250 with a moderate turbo set-up.

can it do it, yes with enough money and work
reliably....NO
save the money don't waste your time trying to push more then 300 if that on 5sfe...you'd be wiser to invest otherplaces

If you don't have the will to search this forum for the answers to your questions, you don't have the will to put forth the GRAND amount of effort to make your car AWD, turbo your car, swap your car, or beat a Supra. You're starting with a not-so-great platform as a Celica fwd. These are my personal opinions, but I think you lack the self-reliance to do reach these goals if you have to ask us all these questions.
I don't mean to put you down, by all means, do it man. Give it a shot.

wow that a cool topic to talk about,well it going to take a whole lot of money and all the stuff your going to throw into going to blow the motor because that camary motor real not made for raceing.Now if your talking about mr 2 that could be close.It a good idea,getting a super charager or turbo will help.I would get a high performance motor and tranmission in order to get to wear you are.You could swap the motor to a v6 camry motor.I read some add v6 to mr2.I think the highest you will get that car to is about 300 hp anything else will blow the motor.even with the trd kit they have for the celica it get more horse power but not enough to beat a supra.Good luck though
