Got my car back today! after it got it's Spec stage 2 clutch and a fidanza lightweight flywheel, it was all ready to go... or so we thought... so after a new battery as well, I was able to drive it today for the first time in like 2 weeks! it feels soooo nice with the new clutch and flywheel, but, I have 459 miles to go to break in my clutch... I really want to see what it feels like now. But I have a quick question, for the 500-mile break-in of the clutch, does that need to be 500 city miles, or do freeway miles count?

my clutch needs to be replace in the next year or when it breaks.

do lighter weight flywheels *really* make a diff.? lemme know =).

you will def. notice a difference in acceleration and decleration

That's city mileage. And a word of caution when breaking in a Spec clutch; be VERY nice to it, and it will be nice to you. Do not bang gears until after the break in period and you should be good to go.

difference as in it will be faster? better? feel diff?

less rotation mass, rpms accelerate AND decelerate quicker.

Downside to a aluminum or severely lightened flywheel though is that it carries less inertia, so launching may become a little more tricky.

well, I drove the car about 140 miles today. I decided to take a cruise on a curvy mountain rode for about 50 miles, to help the break-in process along. I didn't accellerate around any corners, so I was probably pushing in the clutch every 4-5 seconds for about an hour. I'm just counting down the miles... probably about 120 non-freeway miles in so far... 380 to go.

I love the way the flywheel feels. I'm willing to bet money that the 0-60 time is below 8 seconds now. it's just so rev-able. if you push the clutch in and just coast it does lose speed a bit faster, but it's not too annoying.

160 non-freeway miles left to go until break-in is complete. I have to admit, I kinda pushed it last night for the first time (oops)... I was able to squeal the tires into second, something I was never able to do with my old clutch.

I would tell the rest of the story, but this thread would get locked....

so if i got one of those lightweight clutches installed would it last as long as the regular ones (~60k miles)?

secondly, i shouldn't beat it (the clutch) until after 500mi of use?

the little piece of paper that came with my clutch recommended 450 miles of city driving before doing any kind of driving that would be hard on the clutch. I was just gonna do 500 to be safe.

yea be nice to your clutch esp. spec.
and a flywheel should last you at least 60k being it a good one
though alu ones are more likely to warp then a stock one

and i think stock 0-60 for a GT is 8.4 so banging in around 8 flat would be a nice gain smile.gif

don't be like me and break ur clutch in at the strip smile.gif

I haven't really noticed a difference... but that may be due to the fact that I'm always on the gas now, lol biggrin.gif

well, it was officially broken in last night. perhaps a video of a 0-60 coming soon. wink.gif
