Bore out the 1.8 to a 2.0? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #43617 5 posts Started by 6gcSTVT
I saw that Igloo over in croatia (if thats how you spell it) rebuilt his motor completely and had it bored out to a 2.0 with new pistons etc. Is it cost effective or does it once again come down to the whole don't even try modding an ST unless its a turbo or engine swap. I assume only being a 2.0 it won't even push numbers that GT's have stock. Any other opinions?

well, you can add displacement a few ways.

you can bore the cylinder walls, go to much and you could be weakening the amount of power the walls between the cylinders can take.

you can lower compression, by having a shorter stroke or a lower piston height.

you can also add more material between the head and the block (ie over sized head gaskets)

personally id say if its turbo it might be worth it to lower the compression with low comp pistons and also bore the cylinders. but doing all that work for NA just isnt worth it to me. minimal gains.

wink.gif if you want 2 liters, get a 3Sxx motor. the machine work to xray and bore the block would probably cost as much as a swap.

yup, it would be the most cost effective solution. Why pay to change the 7afe's displacement when a 3sxx engine would be a better choice.

Just go with some 3s motor. Like my friend put on 800 dollars to his '96 2.0gs eclipse and still cant beat up my celica. Its not worth it to spend money on a N/A especially when its possible to do a swap like 3sgte. Here in finland 3sgte swap isnt legal. If it would be legal i def had some st205 under the hood. Damn those stupid laws.
