Axle removal ? Need help! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #4369 4 posts Started by capin_crunch
I recently acquired a 6gc celica. You may have seen my video posted on celica.net, and I posted some pictures of the car on here as well. I have been slowly removing the 5sfe engine out of it. Right now I am stuck on trying to remove the axles from the transmission. I have never removed an axle from a car so I have no idea what I am doing. I did how ever get the axles seperated from the "axle hub" (where the rotor and caliper sit). Now I am trying to remove the axles/driveshafts from the transmission. Do I just need to tug on the driveshaft really hard until it pops out or what? The Chiltons manual wasn't really helpful >mad.gif> On the drivers side axle there were six bolts that seemed to go in to the transmission. Do I need to remove these six bolts then tug on the driveshaft? Also is there any special puller that I need?

I will be back posting more questions, because the sooner I get this 5sfe out the sooner the 3sgte goes in. I wish I could take some pictures of my situation, but I leant out my camera :-l

cheers

you should just be able to put a screwdriver or prybar between the axle CV boot on the inside and the transmission, and pop it out that way...or, the way i did it, tied a rope around that CV boot, and tugged. >smile.gif>. either way are effective, just be ready for transmission oil to pour out, so i suggest you drain that first >wink.gif>.

Yeah as long as you disconnected the axles from the wheels, and then theres another piece on or near the tranny, i forget, that i remember i loosened, and then you tug. DRAIN FIRST. I made the mistake of being underneath while i pulled out the axle, its messy.

you need a slidding hammer.. and fork.. thats the right tool to use... if you don't have one just use a flat head screw driver and get in ther and pull..and push...
