so my car came with the stock alarm but one for the numerous owners before me lost the remote or something. Do i need to get a part number on the remote for toyota and if so does anyone have it? or do i need to get one in some other way?

Doesn't the stock alarm come with the stock key with the alarm buttons embedded in it? i'm not using the stock alarm but i do have the stock key, and i only have one. i want to get another key before i switch over to the stock alarm.

from what ive seen i think its a circular 2 button remote, but i dont really have the original key either so i wouldnt know. so if i just bought a generic remote would that work too?

By my experience alarms (and thus remotes) are region specific and seeing as I am in Australia I won't be much use.
What I did find was the only way I could get remotes for my car was through Toyota, and they wanted $250AUD for two remotes and calibration... So i just replaced my whole alarm! It cost me a lot more ($500AUD), however I now have a much better alarm, a new warranty, and remote window lifters!

go to the toyota dealer in your area, they will provide you with a new remote and also will program the remote for you. that's what i did when i lost mine.
