Ripp Mods has recently made a supercharger kit for the Camry 5sfe with an automatic transmission. They need a Celica to go to their shop to test fitment. Any one who lives in the New York area can call them at 718-442-4723. Keep in mind the Celica has to have the 5sfe and it does not matter what kind of transmission it has. www.rippmods.com

omg.. id love to see a production s/c kit for 5s-fe's... that might spark my interest to own a 6th gen gt! >
>
GT's have Turbo Kits, I think the ST's should receive the Supercharger end of the bargain.
saw that one a while back. Looks clean, but waaay expensive.
Did I read it incorrectlly, or did it say it would bring the 5s-fe to 180 hp for $3600?
If the Supercharger isnt CARB legal then I dont see the point of making one for the Celica sicne you coudl do the 3S-GTE swap. A CA 97-99 Celica GT here would benifit because nothign else is street legal.

Yea ghost, I that's 180 to the WHEELS. And I don't belive the 3sgte is carb legal anyway. Besides, theres still 49 other states.
3S-GTE's are CARB legal only for 94-96 Celicas.
CARB states that the engien msut be the same year or higher to have a legal swap no matter what.

I don't see that it'd be worth the money then, unless someone could shine some light on to it. Would it not be cheaper and better to switch the 5th gen alltrac engine in?
ya'll are missing a bunch of stuff....the ripp kit is a full kit with everything....thats why its expensive. its also on an automatic, which makes for lower HP #'s. the manual is estimated at 210.
its another option for those who dont want to (or cant) for whatever reason, do the swap
check the specks.

The RIPP Modifications Inc., Supercharger Drive System (SDS) is designed to bolt up to the in line 4 found in the Toyota Camry (years pending testing). This unit will work with auto or manual transmissions. The system will bolt on an additional 88-100+ horse power at the wheels, which translates to 100-135+ net horse power at the crank.
Power, Drivability, Reliability: these three words sum up the RIPP Modifications, Inc. SDS. RIPP Modifications, unique approach to product development bringing together a product with the level of refinement that your car has been waiting for.
RIPP Modifications has a history of developing high-quality street driven packages. Our Toyota SDS system continues this tradition. This product uses some of the most sought after components on the market today, RIPP-designed components such as the Drive system it self, made of 6061 spun CNC aluminum and of course, Vortech/RIPP-engineered and calibrated Blower and now featuring the HKS AFR fuel programming, which turns your stock ECU into an adjustable fuel controller calibrated for the SDS, to give you safe and reliable HP without going lean as well as offering adaptive learning that calibrates itself to your driving conditions.
Highlights of the kit include the following:
HKS AFR(Fuel controller)
4 270cc Injectors
Rising rate fuel pressure regulator with gauge
Adjustable boost levels
Walboro 255 Fuel pump
2 Part 19 page Illustrated Instructions
Easy install
All hardware included with kit for easy indstall
The 2003 system is running smoother than ever. The new AFR programming currently available has been running reliably in all testers cars, take a look at the new HP levels below, see what you will be driving around.
Power will come on so smooth you think you have a much larger engine. There are no run problems at all. Most notable is no check engine lights or run rich problems. No stalling or boost creep associated with turbo. No oil consumption or thermal break down. Its the safest forced induction system avalible for any car.
The SDS is the most reliable and powerful kit on the market available. It offers a 1 year warranty from RIPP and a 2 year from Vortech.
New Horse Power values:
5SFE Automatic transmission:
180whp 170lb/ft (230 crank HP corrected)
Est 210whp on the 5spd version.
A first look at the production SDS system. Vortech V5Q G-Trim, in place on a 5SFE engine, producing 180WHP and 170lb/ft on an automatic transmission. Est 210whp on the 5spd version. The entire system is CNC designed and fabricated for precise fit and finish.

the problem with that is that the engine still lacks emmisions crap.
if that were true, for a swap i could get a 97-98 front clip of a gt4 and swap in the engine and pass emmisions. thats why i plan onjust getting a whole gt4, as a show car, all i would have to do is add a cat and egr system(that only applies to 94-95, 96-98 will need an obd2 conversion, $$$$)
the key is to know some one that does testing. either pay them to pass you or youy could actually run the car, most jdm engines run cleaner than usdm engines. its visual inspection that they fail

Don't know if you're familiar or not with what they're talking about when they say CARB. Since you're from South Caro, it doens't apply to you. CARB stand for California Air Resource Board. It's a bunch of nitwits who believe that CA still has a massive air pollution prob (true, but so do some of the other states, and particular areas. Pittsburg anybody?). They also believe that if it modifies the engine, it must be harmful to the enviroment. For every modification done to your car in CA that affects the engine, you must a CARB EO (Executive Order) sticker and number. Makes your hood/radiator support look all nice and shiny with those silver stickers on it.

Yea CARB is freakin gay. I'd rather them have us set at a limit rather than having all tehse stupid legal crap. Give us a limit we could work to geez....

30 more HP on a 5sp?
so thats indicating that Auto GT's have 135 hp stock and the 5Spd's have 165
I think that they are WAY off on their power differences between the two tranny's.

Not too hard I belive, you just have to wait a half a year. =P

shouldn't that be a 96-97 celica (would benefit).. considering the '95 was the last year the MR2's were sold..

you lose a lot of available torque on the toyota auto trannys. that's probably why the HP is different.
