I was just wandering if its really important to torque it at the right spec. If so, what torque wrench would you recommend?

No, not really. The only time is use a torque wrench is when I'm putting an engine together and I'm tightening very key parts, like bearing caps, head bolts, etc.

what are you torquing down? its always a good idea to do it to specs.
but if its not a serious part then u'll be fine just getting a little past hand tight.

yea like tweak said.. only important things. We torque so that their is a certain amount of pressure going toward something.

I work on fighter aircraft and we have to torque just about everything because its essential for the componants to stay a certain pressure on a object so that it will get the maximum results. If you put too much pressure its tend to not work at all because you might break something or it might not work because their is a gap or something of the sort.

Use the proper torque specs when you work on EVERTHING you want to work properly and know that is going to not come apart simply because it was not tight enough or was too tight.

Most components are designed to be held together with the proper fastener, fully driven, seated, not striped and torqued to the specifications listed in the manual.

Sure there may be some situations where you would not use a torque wrench they are not limited to engine components
Consider your brakes, suspension parts, etc.
Guessing here is just that, guessing.

Most auto parts suppliers have torque wrenches that are affordable and easy to understand and use.
My opinion is, Get one and use it.

proper torque is always good...and should be used if/when possible

craftsman has really good deals on torque wrenches right now for 60$ per wrench i grabbed a 3/8" and 1/2" for all necissary purposes and i love them

use the torque on anything important.

a lot of times, if you just do it by hand, you'll make the mistake of putting it on too tight, and then just end up striping your threads.

I put another tranny in my car and when puttin together all the bolts,i just tighten it enough to where I feel like it wont snap the nuts. thanks for the input guys i just found a bgb online for 95 celica. I want everything to be perfect so Ill get one.

they have one at pep boys thats only $20 that is really good in my opinion

i got the 3/8 and 1/2 inch torque wrenches at harbor freight for 30

ALWAYS use proper torque specs. I learned that for myself when I didn't use one on my motorcycle (didn't wreck, but lost a bunch of oil on the highway lol). If there's a specified torque, then there's an engineered reason that that part needs that torque.

Come to think of it, I rarely ever use a torque wrench. I mean like, almost never. And i do quite a bit of wrenching.
