Administrators,

Would it be possible to install a wiki on this site? I think it would be really useful for developing how-tos and gathering knowledge and information on our cars. Two examples that come to mind are an article on powered folding door mirrors (I think we pretty much know how to do it now but the info is scattered across a few threads) and enabling the water-cooled intercooler on the WRC (I don't think anyone has got it working the way Toyota intended, but people have unraveled some of the mystery).

If you want to post a how-to go ahead. If it's good enough it'll get stickied.

That's kinda missing the point. Wikis allow content to develop over time and allow many people to pool their information together in a coherent way. Simply put, wikis allow mass collaborative authoring.

Again I give the examples of power door mirrors where the information is just about all figured out now but where no one person knows all the info to write a how-to that covers all countries and the different wiring loom configurations that are out there; and the WRC water-cooled intercooler where perhaps a dozen members have little tit-bits of info that if documented all in one place might allow others to incrementally start figuring out how Toyota intended it should work.

bump.

Loving the software upgrade - keep finding little usability improvements biggrin.gif. But it would be great to have a wiki feature on here. Even if it was just mediawiki and not integrate with the rest of the site for the moment.

wiki........hmm dunno people can go on wiki and input whatever they want. some stuff is accurate....

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island
I'd love the idea tbh, it'd make finding information on things just that little bit nicer smile.gif (and save sifting through a thousand similar thread titles tongue.gif )
okay, most people know how to go to wiki; and howstuffworks.com.

They may even charge for a search link; plus, it'd just redirect traffic OFF of 6gc.net and onto WiKi.com~ kindasad.gif

Why the hell would anyone want to leave 6gc.net?

Wiki the technology, not wiki the website.

For instance, here is the wiki for another Celica forum:
wiki

No, because you can't just go and create an article there or edit an existing one

DaveyItems for sale
But you can create a how-to in the forums which can be stickied.

Argh, but then how does someone else correct a mistake? Did you guys even read the definition of wiki link I posted further up? I know the concept of a wiki is kinda weird and counter-intuitive at first, but jeez.

Nope, you are still missing the point. How does someone else correct my mistake? The point of wikis is that they allow mass collaborative authoring. Please, go and reread the whole of this thread and the article I linked (and I don't mean that in a nasty way - just that I think it would move the conversation on somewhat).

humm... no offense, but i'd rather just move on all together.... The mod's aren't going to add features into 6gc.net. And that's probably the best idea I've heard too. I know what you mean about wiki's; but it really gets interesting with the butting of heads, and it'd just get out of hand... Thats why we have the forums, so that as individuals we can say our opinions, and it's just as good. Less of a "how to" feel to it, but more of a "community" feeling...

IDK, PM Coomer if your heart is really set on it...

i understand the concept.. actually we already have that feature.. well sort of.
if you go to the 6gc howto page (http://www.6gc.net/howto) and view a how to, at the bottom there's a link for members to submit a suggestion/comment/correction to the article.. we just need the mods or Coomer to follow up on these how-to's and keep them up to date.

on a side note, it'd be nice if all of the howto's can be placed on this page, rather than having them stickied at the top of each sub-forum..

Hell yeah!! To have pressure's sticky on the 5sfte and all the others re-vamped into how-to's... Because i'm folling pressures work on that 5sfte right now, and it's a pain in the ass (although still helpfull) when digging thru everyone's replys...

worse case, if you find a better method, or recipe, or way to do something, nothing wrong with saying

"i took this from [member name here]'s how to"

blah blah blah after that you do blah blah blah

"and i found that doing this next"

blah blah blah

"makes for a better finished project"

adding that to your own thread, then having the community look it over to see that it is a better way of doing something could lead to how to method 1 and how to method 2 stickies.

i got off topic, but the way mentioned above as well as by others would be easier on the site as the technology is already in place, is not as nice as the wiki features, but works none the less

you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!(2:27:32 AM) edit: please f*cking work, f*ck, sh*t, piss(2:28:08 AM) edit: that did the trick
I think it would be good from the point of view that changes and additions can be made quickly, rather than having to wait for Coomer, as he doesn't get a lot of time for the site now, so changes can be pretty slow.

But it's a pretty radical change and someone would have to spend a LOT of time transferring everything from the stickies into it, i'm not sure it would take off.

But yeah, i do think the stickies should be transferred to the how to, it's hard to find what you're looking for sometimes.

Well I think it is only fair that I volunteer to transfer the existing stickies over and volunteer to be one of the moderators for the how-to as this is my crusade.
