I started my 3S swap for the first time tonight... It fired right up on the very first attempt and kept running until I turned it off. That was a pleasant surprise since this is my first swap and harness I've done.
I just need to find that damn clamp for the AFM. I know it's hiding in my garage somewhere. If all I lost was a clamp then I'd say I'm doing pretty good.
The open 3" downpipe makes this thing sound mean. Turbo spool is VERY audible even during light throttle in neutral. Cold idle is normal at 1100 RPM and drops to 800 once the engine is up to operating temperature. The RC AFM and ECU seem to be working great on the 90-91 harness converted to a 92-93 RC harness. All my gauges seem to function normally and all the dummy lights work fine too. I'm expecting a code 54 and low boost mode but that's fine with me until I get this tank of 87 octane used up.
First test drive will be tomorrow after work once I slap the axles in and fill the transmission with fluid.
Time to get some much needed sleep.

congrats. Now, tell us what transmission is in there.

nice! I hate axle seals for the record... but have fun with the car! you are exactly where i was about a week ago.
I think this would be the first 6gc 3s swap thats auto. Congrats Justin !
I will return one day.
nice. good job man

show pics when ya can.

it's about time, justin! lol. jk. glad to hear it started up. auto 3s ftw!

goodluck. now post some damn pics/vids.
congrats...i wanna see pics/vids...auto 3s..wow..

Thank you all for the encouraging words. I forgot to take pictures tonight but I'll get some to you all soon.
The car is moving under it's own power but I ran out of time to do an actual test drive. I still need to try a couple things with the ECT computer but I'm rather confident that it will be shifting like stock in no time at all.

The stock one for the 94 GT. If this doesn't work I'll either switch to some form of sequential controller or a stand alone ECT computer from one of the older toyotas.

Maybe answered in another post, but what was the reason you decided to run the 3S on a Auto Tranny? Seems to me that a manual tranny would be more fun?!?
JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

I don't want to clutter this thread with debate so here are the answers in an easy to read list:
1. To be different
2. To prove people wrong
3. Convenience
4. Testicles
Convenience was number one but that slowly changed as people started commenting on the idea.
Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete...
Ok. dont really wanna know the reason behind number 4

But props to all the work you have done and have fun with the car

Took it for a test drive tonight. It's insane even without the torque converter lockup working. I don't have a 2nd gear either since the transmission is in manual mode... but with as quick as 40mph sneaks up on you I'm really excited to see what this thing can do with a fully functional transmission.
I'm going to feed the ECT ECU an IGF signal and see if that'll get it shifting. From what I've read in the troubleshooting sections is that if there is no IGF signal for 4 consecutive revolutions then the computer stops the engine... It doesn't say anything about stopping the transmission solenoid control but it would make sense that the computer would shut everything down since the engine's not supposed to be running anyway.
I don't think the neighbors would appreciate me running around the neighborhood with an open DP so I don't have any videos for you all but I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow after work when the sun is still out.

Awesome! I cant wait to see some videos. You are the man !
I would love to see gauge cluster shots.
Congrats again
I will return one day.
mod list to engine and transmission?

Stock Trans and Axles
92-93 (Possibly RC?) Engine, Stock but refreshed with all new seals and gaskets.
RC ECU and AFM
90-91 harness converted to 92-93 RC harness.
All new Toyota ignition components
Ceramic CT26 Turbo rebuilt by Majestic Turbo of Texas
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Open 3" SSAutocrap DP
Polyurethane filled motor mounts
A2A TMIC until I get the intake adapter to fit my ST205 IC
Locked in low boost mode until I use up this crappy gas and get an AVCR.
I need to get an air filter. What does everyone think about the AEM Dryflow filters? I hear they flow better than K&N and you don't have to oil them.

K&N do not need to be oiled either. I think virtually any air filter will do the job very comparably to other filters but wouldn't buy HKS due to oil requirement and price.

Is it normal to sound like an F16 preparing for takeoff when I close the throttle suddenly? I have no BPV so I was thinking it was compressor surge but it doesn't have that fluttering sound you usually associate with surge.
The only other thing I could think of is a stuck wastegate or defective actuator but I'm not overboosting so I'm kinda leaning towards compressor surge.
Any ideas?
Could the fact that there is no air filter or exhaust just be making the turbine noise more pronounced?
I'll try and get a sound clip for you all later.

your not using an air filter???
so is it just direct air going into your turbo??

Yeah it's been pretty rainy and wet down here so I'm not too concerned with dust right now. I don't plan on leaving it that way for too much longer though.
