Anybody got any hints or things that you have done to correct it?

No more replicas... This is evolution... This isSS-four:)________[Featured Celica of 6gc.net @ 2010]_________
fix/clean your EGR...
"It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"1995 AT200 Celica ST:stocked out daily driver...1984 AE86 Corolla GT-SR5:silvertop 20V 4AGE project car jacked up with goodies...1991 SW2x MR2 n/a:bare bones hardtop model soon to be...
however, if you've swapped a jdm 7afe/4afe - it will also read a 71 in engine codes.
but im sure this isnt your case.
but im sure this isnt your case.
the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.
Removed the EGR tube from the old engine to clean it and install on the newer engine, swapped over the EGT probe and tested the VSV, swapped over the vacuum module and checked it's filter, I'll keep you posted as to what corrects this condition.
Why would a JDM 7afe trip the light? Got any links to this info?

Well well the plot thickens! Cleaned up my egr tube and valve and this afternoon, during the swap I discovered the difference between a JDM motor and a US motor! Viola! no port for EGT gases to flow thru.
So I do have a JDM 7AFE(bought off ebay for cheap) although not advertized as such. Maybe it's time for Paypal Protection to step in and refund some cash. I'm glad GA isn't too stingent on emission testing. I ended up leaving the current EGT tube and valve installed and moved the EGT probe up against the head for some all inportant heat to see if the MIL light will illuminate again. I'll post results. I'm thinking maybe tap into the heater hose for a heat source for the probe.

If anyone is missing NASCAR and it's not on Speed Channel, take a fistful of Skittles, throw them in the toilet and hit the flush handle. Instant NASCAR!!!
my 5sfe threw a code 71 a couple days ago. I had disconnected the vacuum hose between the EGR and it's vacuum source, then when I plugged it back in I had the CEL. I'm still trying to figure out what it is.

If the EG probe is not getting hot exhaust gas it will cause the CEL to come on. Clean the EGR, tube assy so it can get the hot gas needed.
