Hey guys, ever since I've owned my car, leaking battery acid has been a problem, (probably because I just buy the cheapest battery at Autozone). What brand do I need to buy to stop this problem? I've checked my alternator voltage and they're in tolerance, so that's not the problem. I just need a reputable brand where I won't have to clean that crap up anymore. Thanks!

no maintenance sealed type battery is the way to go. I have used Optima and Exide Orbital and they are both really good.

no, "no maintenance sealed" means its "no maintenance." When you check/add water that is maintaining the battery. sealed ones are just that, sealed. BUT if your fluid levels ever get low, you cant just add some water and top it up, you need to buy a new battery.

x2, either optima is good. But if you run a stereo system with some amps, do what the others say and get a yellow top.
Dont even think anything else than optima yellow top battery. It does its job perfectly.

whats the difference of red/yellow top... like red for starting and yellow for sound system, does the yellow top also prevent your lights from dimming when you put down the windows? haha if so thatd be awesome

A yellow top optima battery is a Deep Cycle battery, which improves voltage stability and somewhat helps that problematic "dimming light" issue you get when your sub drops some deep bass. But if you run 2 or more amps that exceeds 1000w, than I still would suggest a farad cap in your stereo setup (As so I was told). A red top, like you said, is mainly a starting battery or in other terms it's like a standard battery you buy at autoparts stores except it's leak proof.

interesting, so redoing the ground wires and adding in a yellow top i assume would prevent the dimming from the subs as you said, does it also prevent the dimming from when you put ur windows up/down? or is that too much of a draw, my lights also dim a little when im ideling instead of the engine revving a bit

I believe there is really nothing you can do about the power draw from power windows or at idle. I noticed that with my car also, but it's not an issue so don't worry about it. And yes redoing your ground wiring on the chassis does help a bit, but it's not a drastic difference (In fact it's almost unnoticeable but hey it does look cleaner IMO).

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm still running factory premium sound (original stereo, too), so I went with the red top. Looks pretty freakin' leak proof!

This sounds like your alternator is going bad. You might want to get this checked.
