spec stage 2 - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #45163 15 posts Started by 6strngs
so, I just recieved a G-tech performance meter and I put it in and went to go take my car out for some test runs. I went out to these really long straight back roads that nobody is ever on and gave it 4 or 5 hard runs. but by the third run my brand new-ish spec stage 2 clutch (only 3,000 miles on it!) started slipping in second. and the next run it slipped into 2nd and 3rd. and while I was driving it home it slipped a LOT! and by I mean A LOT!!! like, just cruising in any gear at 25% throttle, just pressing the gas down slightly to, say, 50% throttle and it would slip for a while before catching. could my new clutch really be gone already? I mean, I broke it in 500 miles before pushing it, but I have driven it kinda hard since then. I bought the stage two so I could have something that would hold up to the power I plan on after I turbo, but if it can't even hold up to a near-stock 5sfe's power... anyway, anybody know what spec's warranty is like? I can't seem to find the piece of paper they sent me with the clutch. I'm most scared that even if the clutch is gone and they send me a new one for free that I'm still going to have to pay another $760 labor to get it installed... again!

Not quite sure what could be going on. The only thing I can think of is that some oil might have got on the clutch and it was burning it off. Is your clutch stock or aftermarket?
your clutch pedal might be out of adjustment or you have an oil leak somewhere thats causing the clutch to slip

it is aftermarket. a spec stage 2.

I do have some kind of oil and/or transmission fluid leak. but I have no idea where it's leaking from. anybody know how to locate a leak?

What I meant to say was is it a 6 puck clutch or is the clutch disc solid? If you want to locate where the leak is coming from you can dye the engine and use a black light to find where the leak is at.
spec stage 2's are full faced disks

thats a spec stage 2^^^

PS: thats the hybrid kit for the GT tranny and 3s engine

check your distributor seal to see if anything is leaking from there. if that checks out, then there is a good chance that your rear main seal is leaking and causing the problem.

I know this is a little off topic, but I was wondering if the 5sfe crankshaft bolt holes where the fylwheel is bolted on to is straight through becuase if so, oil could be leaking through the bolt holes, and it could look like a rear main leak.

no, they are not. the only thing in that area is the rear main seal.

Thanks for the info, Cause mine leaks from around that area. Now I have narrowed it down to the rear seal. smile.gif

well, I pulled my distributor cap off today and there was oil around the edge on the bottom of it. does this mean my distributor seal is leaking?

It is possible. However, did you check to see if the o-ring could be leaking also?
