Brakes? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #45254 23 posts Started by Kerr1
i know this is a stupid question....but u know how 240s can convert their calipers to the 300zx well i was wonderin if anyone has researched supra brakes and if they fit GTs...sry if its a stupid question was kinda hopin it would wrk tho..and i dont know that much abt. brakes so any advice would b great.
You should try & see!!!
well from wat i kno is that the supra's carry a different hole pattern on their rims ... so if u goin to try to upgrade ur braking system to the supra's u will need to change the whole thing , and when i mean the whole thing i jus means the studs and discs , calipers and watever else u need to change.
rofl try the 2jz swap while you're at it!!!

0k no seriously, the supra brakes arn't going to fit, you don't have rotors that are large enough and correctly spaced, and i doubt the caliper would even bolt up without some form of spacer and adaptor

for some reason i thought the mkiv supra shared the same brakes with the gt four

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

i never said that gt four brakes fit smart ass. just pointing out that they should have the same hole pattern in response to gmoney1's reply.

you quoted and replied to my post? and you NEVER mentioned a hole pattern in your own reply..

but why woulda GT4 have the same hole pattern as a supra?
since the GT4 has the same pattern as a normal celica...

i guess what we are saying here is where are you relating a celica and a supra besides the fact they are both made by toyota laugh.gif

fair enough, dont be a prick, im not familar with brakes. i just figured that if the supra and gt four did share the same brakes as ive heard, then they would have the same hole pattern, and it would be possible to put the supra brakes (i assume you would need to swap to superstrut however)

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.
so if i'm a prick does that make you ignorant?

cause Supra = Mcpherson suspension....

-you don't have the weight of a supra
-you don't have the power of a supra

Therefore, you don't need the brakes of a supra

-you don't have the same master cylinder
-you don't have the same proportioning valve
-you don't have the same bolt pattern
-you don't have the same mounting points for the calipers

Therefore, the brakes off of a supra do not fit

Seriously, put on some good disks (brembo blanks) and good pads (Hawk HPS, HP+, Porterfields). They'll be bolt-on and will brake nearly, if not as good as... you guessed it : a supra.

thanx....i just dont wanna go flying off a mountain cuz my brakes arent strong enough....i wont to b able to brake way later then what im doin now. Thats all i want....i was just tryin to find a cheeper way of getting good calipers.
Calipers you have right now are way more then sufficient

you just need good pads and rotors coupled with some decent tires!

yea...i know i need new rotors and pads...wats tha recomendation on rotors? thinkin abt. goin w/ slotted...i heard drilled rotors crack w/ excesive heat.
Well, just to jump in here. Overall, if you change the necessary parts can you still convert it?

You can also go with the iRotors slotted stuff which I hear is pretty good.

no real need for drilled/slotted unless your hard on your brakes for hours.. get some HP plus pads, Brembo replacement rotors, new brake fluids.. and maybe some braided brake lines.. you should be set..

You'll need a custom caliper bracket and a custom rotor.

ALSO... the ST205 and mkiv Supra do not use the same caliper. The Supra caliper is unique to that car, while the Celica caliper is also unique to that car (although very very similar to the 4x4 Toyota truck calipers). Neither one will "bolt-on" to 6th gen non-SuperStrut Celicas.

just ordered some tha other day!! should b here 2morrow along w/ new KYB struts...thanx 4 tha info.
If you want to improve your stopping power, i highly stand begind my new set up. I have an st so i upgraded both front and back to gt Rotors/calipers. Obviously you could skip this step if you have a gt. I got a set of steel braided brake lines from Russel. Also i upgraded to slotted Rotora rotors in the Front only. Hawk pads, and i also used a sythetic DOT 4 brake fluid opposed to DOT3. its just a little bit more but it has a higher boiling point than DOT3 and therefore if you are constantly aplying the brakes, it is less likely to boil and give you that sloppy peddal feel. Stops WAAAYYY better than before. I think the main ingrediant was the brake lines. the pedal feels way stiffer and the brakes respond a lot better. Good with it!
