My piston rings are bad and i'm burning oil. I'm tired of my white car having a black rear end, where i have to wash it ever week to keep it looking desent. Does anyone know roughly how much a shop might charge to fix it?

have u done a compression and leak down test..?
no, my girlfriends brother is a mechanic and he checked it out though.
lol i laugh
any good mech knows to do a compression + leak down test before claiming rings...
cause valve seals will do the same thing

Say if it was that the rings were bad, your looking at about $500-$700 depending on the mechanic you go to.
However, you may be able to save some money if you get the parts yourself.
Normally it's the cylinder bore and not the rings that wear.....
So IF you have ring leakdown, you're probably looking at a cylinder rehone at minimum, probably a rebore, not just replacing the rings.
But yes, valve seals also will cause oil burning, and are MUCH more common to go bad.
