Squeeling Steering - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #45935 6 posts Started by stud97023
Hey everyone,
I read on another post about someone who had a similar problem but i dont believe he ever posted if and how he fixed it. So heres whats going on, When i start my carar and it is cold, as soon as i turn the wheel even a little bit it begins to squeek a lot!! and its pretty loud. But once it gets warm it stops. BUt whenever (despite the temp) i turn all the way to the left or the right it makes the same squeeling noise. Any ideas on what it is and how to fix it? Is it the pump? the belt? my fluid is full. Thanks for your help.
I have the same problem and it getting worse by the day, my fluid is also full kindasad.gif .
I took off the belt, and was going to replace it but autozone gave the the wrong one, my instructor said that the belt looked fine though. Im think its gona end up being the pump.

ITs the belt... You could try tightening it some more but dont over tighten cause it will put strain on the pump. Even if the belts look fine alot of times they still slip.

wow! yeah im also having the same problem but only when im in reverse and turning hard to the left or right but ill probably do some more ivestigating on this matter because for some reason i had beleived it to be the tire rods or one of my c v joints. by the way the mileage on my car is at 121,000 miles so be prepared for some costly repairs. already changed out my radiator, thermostats and egr valve $$$$$ its starting to breakdown im just trying to rag it out for as long as i dont have to worry about a car note kindasad.gif
someone told me that, the problem was the CVboots. mines are cracked and when i turn the wheel all the way it makes a sqeaking sound mostly when its cold
Will replacing boots help? Yes it will. Will steering shaft boot replacement help? yes it would.. I did both.

However your problem comes from several things.

YEsterday I finally decided to change rotors and pads on my daily drive rcelica and behold I found that my engine was leaking like a barel with 400 cajillion holes in it. BAsically whats happening is that as oil leaks out and is spread all over engine (leaks at various places starting at where head gasket is bolted on and down) it spreads on belts, pulleys etc etc. Also if your steering pump assembly is damaged (ie mine is extremely sensitive to cold weather which makes it hard to steer at first. .. its a combination of things...

Check steerig pump, check seals etc. Easiest way to determine is engine is leaking is to put a newspaper under engine bay and leave it overnight when its not cold. If you see drip drip drip dripppidy drip then you know you have similar issues to mine.
