What I would like is to make a device to tell me what gear the car is in, and that's pretty easy to set up. And also have a top limit and bottem limit. That way, while racing I could keep the car right wear it needs to be.
it's fairly easy to do (i think)
mount a plate with 3 micro switches on front and back of the shifter assembly, place them according to where the rod sits in each gear and have a "normaly closed" circuit for the neutral.
Connect LEDs to a panel with semi transparent number/letters.
You don't need a switch for reverse, you have the reverse light circuit.
I thought about doing this and sticking the LEDs in the shifter itself (with a strong input resistor so they don't shine super bright)
